I specialize working with adolescents (10-19 years-old) and young adults (20-34 years-old), and in the areas of trauma, anxiety, adjustment d/o, and teen issues.
It sounds "cliché" but I focus on meeting each client where they are from the very first therapy session. If you aren't sure what your exact issues, needs or goals for therapy are, you are not alone. I work with clients to identify key issues impacting daily life and contributing to their primary symptoms, develop treatment goals and objectives tailored to address the identified issues in a realistic way, and spending sessions working together to facilitate positive change.

Abuse is something that affects a lot of people and in various different ways. It is something that can be hidden from the world and no one will know the pain the individual is going through. It is quiet and insidious, leaving lasting effects. It can creep up on you and make you feel alone in the world full of people. It can leave you feeling misunderstood, alone, and/or broken. There are ways to work through the trauma, safeguard yourself, and heal from parts of the abuse. You will rebuild yourself esteem, sense of self, and confidence in the process of healing. Everyone's journey is different.

My clinical framework is rooted in attachment theory, which reiterates the delicate nature of the relationship between mother and baby. This relationship is integral to everything in our world and yet we often trivialize this relationship and assume that if there is a happy, healthy baby, then our mothers should remain perfectly aligned. The truth is, we know that the journey of motherhood is far more complex and intertwined, than how society portrays it.

For most of us, these last few years have involved a dumpster fire or 3. That, on top of whatever other stuff is weighing you down is a lot to carry. You're human. You have your best self, worst self, & most days are somewhere in between. We’ll look at your patterns & decide which are serving you well & which you want to shift. My goal is to normalize your messiness & then help you untangle it, so you can connect with your underlying needs & feel good about getting them met. By getting in touch with your body’s innate wisdom, you will learn to better trust yourself, simplify your communication, & feel more connected with others.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
