"When people come to therapy, it's important to remember that they are trying to cope in the best way they can. You don't have to wait until things feel unbearable. I have been a psychotherapist for over 25 years, and have experience working with Online Gaming, Adolescents, Parenting Conflicts, Cross-cultural Therapy, Learning Disabilities, Depression, GLBT Issues, Bereavement,Anxiety and Trauma. A video is worth a thousand words, so if you go to my website you'll find two that talk about my specialty, who I am and how I work."

"I enjoy working with people who seek both short term solution-focused therapy and those who choose to pursue longer term goals of personality change in the context of depth psychology. There are truly many paths to achieving significant relief from symptoms of loss, depression, and anxiety or a change in one's personal situation. I view the therapeutic journey as Herodotus understood the original meaning of the word history (historous): not as a noun (i.e. a fixed thing) but a verb: literally to go and find out for one's self."

"I want to help you deal with the effects of emotional pain which is often invisible to others. If you are looking to be able to trust yourself and others and to understand the negative repetitive patterns in your life, then therapy can be a solution. Competency, honesty, compassion and the ability to trust someone are necessary qualities in your therapist. Although life can be full of pain, I believe we can reduce our suffering. Therapy is a collaborative process and requires we work together to reduce your pain by increasing your personal understanding of the patterns in your life"

"Hello! I am a licensed therapist and I'm skilled at helping others to navigate an array of challenges by cultivating growth, building skills, deepening insight and awareness, and fostering meaningful relationships. My approach is rooted in mindfulness and strategies to build awareness and insight into one's thoughts, feelings, actions, and personal experience. With increased awareness you will be able to "slow down" and better understand what is happening so you can respond effectively to challenges rather than react in old, unhelpful ways. I will also teach you skills to help you relate to yourself and others with kindness."

"We are inherently whole, completely interconnected, and there is more right with us than there is wrong with us. Therapy is a way to practice and balance strategies of acceptance and change. My style is warm, active, and encouraging. Our focus will return to the power and wisdom of the present moment. We will practice increasing moment-to-moment awareness of thoughts, emotions, sensations, and behaviors. We will also look at how changes in these areas may be conducive to improved health (mindfulness-based cognitive-behavioral therapy)."

"From struggling to THRIVING. Become more fully "yourself." Enjoy relationship satisfaction. Strengthen connection to something bigger that is meaningful. Get relief from depression and anxiety (really!). Improve effectiveness at work. Feel more at home in your body, content. Mindful and present. LAUGH. Choosing a therapist that is both really good AND a great fit is important. There is a difference here you will experience from the get go. The office is in a 1930's Cape Cod style house...inviting & comfortable. With warmth and character. David is unusually relational and "real." Sessions are 60, 75 or 90 minutes rather than 50."

"Life and living only exist in the present moment. Our untrained mind often causes us suffering when it dwells on past experiences, or future fears, clouding this moment where living actually occures. Depression, anxiety, our beliefs about our selves and others, all stem from these unnecessary thoughts and their related emotions. Our mind must come to realize that it is the cause of its own unhappiness. Then whatever we experience in life is no longer overwhelming. I have an appreciation and grounding in western oriented psychodynamics enriched with an eastern psychological and Spiritual perspective. Please visit my website: kennethandert.com"

Many have a strong spiritual connection to their current obstacles and are willing to integrate that into their treatment. Presenting concerns range from racial trauma to life transitions, grief to identity. There is an understanding that what is presenting is not a problem, where the goal is creating more space around struggles, creating more options, finding a different perspective, and Being more fully."

Adolescents / Teenagers (14 to 19) Therapists
Adolescence describes the teenage years between 13 and 19 and can be considered the transitional stage from childhood to adulthood. However the physical and psychological changes that occur in adolescence can start earlier, and it can be a time of both disorientation and discovery. The transitional period can bring up issues of independence and self-identity. Sometimes teens may be experimenting with drugs and alcohol or sexuality. During this time, peer groups and external appearance tend to increase in importance.

For help with adolescents or for a Portland adolescent therapist these professionals provide help for adolescent development and adolescent education. They include adolescent therapists in Portland, adolescent psychologists, and adolescent counselors. They can help with adolescent behavior, adolescent learning and adolescent discipline.

Portland teen Therapists also provide help for troubled teens in Portland or troubled teen boys and girls. For parents of out-of-control teens, Portland therapists can help with communicating and understanding your teen. And therapists in Portland can help with teenager behavior and teen learning issues.

How can I tell if a therapist is right for me?
