You can talk to me about anything; nothing you tell me will shock or surprise me. I can help your child become their own therapist by learning techniques and coping strategies to work through the challenges in their lives. I work well with children and adolescents struggling with anxiety, depression, social issues, learning issues, attention deficit disorder, and body image issues. Clients often see a reduction in symptoms and improved well-being early on in therapy.

My focus as a therapist is helping you understand and embrace your own identity and your own values. There is powerful strength in being yourself, and we can discover that strength together. My expertise is particularly in working with body image and eating disorders, with people who have or wish to be evaluated for autism and/or ADHD, with people experiencing self-injury or suicidal ideation, and with people who have "treatment-resistant" or severe anxiety and depression. I partner with patients who want to understand themselves on a deep level, while simultaneously offering concrete skills and tools to alleviate current symptoms.

I provide traditional talk therapy and art therapy. Oftentimes it can be difficult to discern what exactly we are feeling, but I find that recognizing the way emotions present themselves in our bodies can help anchor our understanding and process confusing experiences. Sometimes feelings can be so overwhelming that the idea of putting them into words feels impossible, but through therapy we can do it together. I work through a trauma-informed lens and focus on collaboratively fostering a sense of safety, empowerment, human connection, and a sense of agency.

I'm a psychologist who works with children, adolescents and adults, specializing in loss, trauma and family issues, in English and Spanish. I use integrative, strengths and evidenced-based therapy. I believe that humans are inherently wired for resilience. In particular contexts, our once healthy coping skills may prevent us from returning to our adaptive core. In therapy, I urge patients to learn to experience and tolerate emotions, access instinctive coping capacities and build a flexible mindset. This method allows patients to uncover strengths, and deepen their sense of hope, leading lives filled with vitality and exuberance.

My priority in therapy is to help you better understand your emotions and what drives them, in order to make decisions that align with who you are. As a child of immigrants, I understand the challenging experience of growing up with social and parental pressures that contradict each other. For this reason, I thoroughly enjoy working with South Asian and POC adolescents and adults who have had similar challenges in navigating life amidst various external expectations. If you are grappling with anxiety, self-criticism, relationship challenges, or uncertainty in making significant life decisions, I am here to help you through it!

I know what it’s like to be in a perpetual evolution of the self. Engaging with past lives and exploring personal truths takes an incredible amount of work, and oftentimes requires help and support. I believe that everyone has the capacity to overcome the thought processes and behavioral patterns that inhibit us from growing into our most vibrant selves. I work through a trauma-informed lens, and utilize research around minority stress theory and attachment theory, amongst others, to formulate individually-tailored plans of action. Whether you’re a creative or a corporate executive, your needs and your path are specific to you.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
