Have you wondered if therapy can be helpful to your adolescent or young adult? I offer a complimentary phone consultation to discuss any questions you may have. You can talk to me about anything; nothing you tell me will shock or surprise me. I can help your child become their own therapist by learning techniques and coping strategies to work through the challenges in their lives. I work well with children and adolescents struggling with anxiety, depression, social issues, learning issues, attention deficit disorder, and body image issues. Clients often see a reduction in symptoms and improved well-being early on in therapy.

Navigating through your day with worry or distress may feel like an uphill battle. You might often wonder, if you will ever overcome these feelings. If you will ever stop feeling so pressured, so overwhelmed, so exhausted. It might be difficult to participate in your relationships. You might feel stuck or have scary thoughts. All you want is for this pain to finally stop. Imagine if you can begin to quiet down that pain. Imagine feeling less stuck and having the space to deepen relationships. Could you see yourself challenging your thoughts and creating a new narrative?

As a couple's psychotherapist with deep roots in cultural studies and contemplative psychotherapy, I am committed to helping you navigate the complexities of emotions and relationships that define our human experience. Often in life, feelings of sadness, confusion, or disconnection can overwhelm us. It’s easy to feel stuck—burdened by emotions that seem too dense to untangle or escape. We might find ourselves criticizing our own thoughts, pushing away loved ones, and losing sight of our innate vibrancy and creativity. But there is a way through this. Change is not only possible; it is within your grasp.

Do you want to explore the untapped parts of yourself that make you unique? I am a black, queer, cis-gender male from Long Island and I believe therapy is the best place to discover what makes you unique. In my personal journey to mental wellness, I it was challenging to find a therapist that felt safe, relatable and authentic. I know what it is like to be judged and misunderstood because of your identity and who you love. With my journey, I am empowered to help you navigate your relationships, your past experiences, and the stresses of your daily life.

Adjusting to changes in a time of uncertainty while maintaining a sense of connection to one’s friends and family can be difficult. In such conditions it is easy to feel disconnected from one's career and from the support systems used to foster a sense of stability. This sense of disconnection can be overwhelming and can result in feelings of anxiety and depression.

Feeling stuck, unfulfilled, and overwhelmed can be very debilitating, isolating and feel permanent. These challenges can come up in relationships (love, family) and in your profession. You may have tried just about everything you can think of to address your concerns but still don't know how to move forward and resolve things. I can help you find relief. I have a calm, gentle presence that is perceived by many to be nurturing and inviting.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
