I specialize in individual adult, child and adolescent therapy; as well as in couples counseling.
You may now be seeking help to simply feel better. However, I have found over my many years of practice that therapy will usually make your entire life better as well. Often anxiety, low self esteem, depression, relationship problems, and underlying conflicts we may not even fully understand, limit us from achieving what we want in our lives. Sometimes, we even need to discover what we truly want in order to be happy and successful. My therapeutic approach is proactive and geared toward directly achieving positive change.

I imagine you may wonder what your life means. You might want to feel vitally connected to nature, the spiritual world and people in your life. Or you feel sad or numb and want to understand why, to feel more energy. Or you just want to sit still and not worry about the future. In one way or another, you are looking to feel safe and fulfilled, to relieve distress and feel less alone. Perhaps you feel loneliness and don't know what to do about it or have an addiction you sometimes hide and sometimes admit to yourself. You may have a child or adolescent you're concerned about, with conflicts you hope can heal.

Currently, I only have weekday morning availability. I provide a safe and supportive space for my adult and adolescent clients to explore and work through the conflicts, concerns, and struggles that bring them to therapy. I believe every client has a set of skills and strengths that therapy can help to identify and build upon. Therapy focuses on uncovering underlying issues and thought patterns that may be negatively impacting the client's life. I also provide parent support to parents of adolescents who want to strengthen the relationship with their child/better understand their child's developmental needs.

I am a child/adolescent & trauma specialist.
My goal is to guide clients through self-exploration, self-awareness and resilience building that transforms them into self-reliant individuals. I integrate psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral (CBT), DBT, relational, and mindfulness-based techniques tailored to specific needs. The therapeutic relationship is a partnership explored within a safe, non-judgmental environment, working at a pace that is comfortable for the client; we can explore short or long-term counseling. Together, we can work towards resolving feelings of sadness, anxiety, and understanding maladaptive patterns, gaining insight to change problematic behaviors

I have exensive post-graduate training in family and adolescent treatment/ Family and couples treatment may include the issue of chronic illness and its effects on the family and the struggles of the "sandwich generation" where couples are coping with both the needs of their children and their aging parents.
Depression, anxiety, eating disorders, career difficulties, and relationship conflicts can feel overwhelming. An individual may feel stuck in unhealthy coping mechanisms. As a psychodynamic therapist, I know that individuals suffering from these difficutlies may exhibit similar symptoms, yet the underlying causality is unique to each individual. Revealing one's problem to a stranger can be difficult, I work with my clients to develop a safe environment where there is a mutual sense of authenticity, empathy, and trust. In collaboration with the client, we develop a treatment plan based on his/her individual needs and goals.

As an adult or teenager your feelings and experiences are unique. You may need to have someone who can acknowledge what is important to you and to help you find ways to improve the way you feel about yourself, your loved ones, your life and your environment! Because we live in a materialistic society, people often feel isolated or alone, unsupported, conflicted or pressured to change your values. My goal is to help you to discover your needs and to help you achieve a strong sense of self and an ability to utilize the resources and relationships available to you.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
