I will create a safe space for you, your teen, and/or your family to resolve conflicts, discover your own resiliency, cope, and grow.
The pressures adults face today can feel insurmountable, and for kids, sometimes growing up is hard to do. Life's obstacles can be overwhelming, but you don’t have to face them alone. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with an MSW from Columbia University, MS from Johns Hopkins University (Health Informatics), and a BS in Psychology from Binghamton University. I have worked for nine years as a social worker on Long Island treating individuals and families. My current practice focuses on teens (16+), young adults, and adults.

It’s no secret that raising a teenager can be difficult. It’s often challenging to differentiate when teens are healthily working through issues or need help from an expert. If your teen is struggling at home, school, or the community, appears angrier or more irritable than usual, has started hanging out with a different group of friends, seems overly anxious, or engages in risk-taking behaviors- I can help! I also lend my expertise to young adults in the midst of life transitions. My goal is to help teens and young adults develop the necessary coping skills to live a satisfying life.

Eunoia (Beautiful Thinking) Counseling provides therapeutic services for adolescent girls, women and their families.
I am passionate about uniting with women through painful and difficult seasons of their life. Many of us live each day with a lack of contentment, a nagging sense that we are not enough, but this does not have to become the norm. Challenges may arise that are difficult to overcome. Counseling is a way to develop better ways to cope with life in the present, heal wounds from the past, let go of worries for the future and help you overcome these barriers that stand in your way. I help clients gain insight by providing a supportive and caring environment, while also challenging my clients as my counsel is to always move forward.

I utilize the internal personas of your child, adolescent, and adult selves to give voice to the parts of you that have been severed, ignored or forgotten.
There are times when it is too challenging to deal with significant changes on our own. Whether we are experiencing shifts in our relationships, a separation, dealing with divorce, taking responsibilty for your finances, raising kids, parenting adult children, or allowing the good to flow, we all need support. Sometimes our bodies signal to us that we need help, evidenced by our sleeping (or not) patterns, our (scheduling) eating, and our (high and low) moods. I like to incorporate mindfulness tools to assist you in developing a 'calm' within yourself as you unpack and place problems in their proper perspective.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
