Substance abuse disorders are complex and have various biopsychosocial (biological, psychological and social) causes. Many individuals who abuse substances also have a history of trauma which often began in childhood. For this reason, I have pursued extensive training in the relationship between trauma and addiction and I have obtained the credentials of Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP), Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist and Addiction (CCTS-A) and Certified Clinical Complex PTSD Professional.
The relationship between substance use and trauma is complex and closely intertwined. Individuals both abuse substances as a consequence of trauma and get exposed to trauma as consequence of abusing substances. I bring a trauma-informed approach to my practice to better help my clients who suffer from both addiction and trauma.
If this is your case, I can help you understand how trauma and addiction have interacted in your life and help you find the tools to cope with the legacy of trauma without the use of substances. Services provided in English and Spanish.
