Are you a perfectionist? Do you have repeated distressing thoughts that are difficult to get rid of? Maybe you have flashbacks or triggers that stop you from doing what you once enjoyed? Hypervigilant and not feeling safe? Do you feel hollow, numb, or like you're going through the motions? High-functioning anxiety taking over? Or shame suffocating you? Maybe you've seen too much [it's just part of the job] and you find yourself thinking about it all the time? Talking may not be your thing, we can still process and reduce your symptoms.

Please EMAIL. Conflict within ourselves and our relationships can feel exhausting and isolating. Sometimes it can feel as though we are powerless or stuck waiting for other people or our environment to change. I believe growth is always possible when people feel strong support as they address unhelpful patterns and narratives. By deeply respecting how experiences affect clients, I seek to empower them to exercise more influence and agency in their lives and relationships.

Hi, my name is Arika, I look forward to connecting with you and supporting your healing journey. I am fully licensed therapist with over 20 years of experience. However, I am not the therapist who you are going to see for the next 20 years. My aim is to get you feeling better safely and quickly. What you can expect from me is a compassionate & non judgmental approach that is both honest and kind. There is little I have not heard, witnessed, or that will surprise me. What sets me apart is my fearless willingness to go into the shadows with you, and hold the light while you remember yours.

As a dual licensed therapist I partner, with children, parents, adolescents/teens, adults of all ages who are struggling with anxiety, depression, grief and big life transitions, adjustment to change, addiction, and relationship problems. I offer the soft landing of a supportive, trusting, compassionate, and nonjudgmental environment that is grounded in empathetic listening and innovative therapies beyond the traditional “talk therapy.” Most clients begin to notice improvement within 2 to 3 sessions.

You must find the place inside yourself where nothing is impossible. - Deepak Chopra. You are experiencing unpleasant symptoms of anxiety, depression, PTSD, and or other mental health disorders, and at this point it is weighing you down and getting in the way of how you want to live your life. Your mental health is impacting how you want to connect with yourself and connect with the world around you. You want to experience positive emotions, but those have been dulled down and painful emotions have taken over. You are noticing your physical health is being impacted by your mental health. At this point you don't know where to turn.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
