In one context or another I have been in the counseling field for 15 years, from settings such as prisons, to drug and alcohol centers, in home therapy, counseling in public schools and the community office setting. New clients welcomed! Feeling seen, heard, and understood can be some of the most empowering feelings we experience in life. On the other hand, feeling lost, misunderstood, disconnected, and overwhelmed can be extremely isolating. Whether this is due to trauma, life transitions, identity, relationships, dysfunctional family dynamics, anxious/depressive thoughts, etc. I know how hard it is to feel alone. Therapy can be a great tool to know yourself fully, work through those isolating experiences and feelings, and ultimately live more authentically.

Life is complicated. I want to help clients navigate life’s challenges to find their path to peace. My ideal client could be someone who is dealing with unresolved conflict from the past or present. My ideal client could also be someone someone with relationship issues such as codependency or being raised in a toxic home. This could also include someone with mood stability issues or someone who struggles with negative and irrational thought patterns. I often work well with those who work in public service. We can work as a team to find the tools you need to navigate the messy parts of life.

Seeing clients through the Psychology Today Telehealth portal allows me to assist clients throughout NC. I work with individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, adjustment disorders, anger issues, PTSD and Asperger's disorder. I work with couples to improve their communications & the overall quality of their relationships. I assist couples whose relationships have suffered from infidelity. I also help families deal with the challenges of divorce, step family formation, and parent/teenager conflicts. I have experienced divorce, remarriage, and step family issues, thus I understand the emotional impact of these life changes.

I have been in full-time private practice as a clinical and counseling psychologist for 31 years. I completed a hospital internship and have spent my career seeing not only patients with emotional disorders, but also patients with medical diagnoses such as chronic pain, cancer, multiple sclerosis, heart disease, and morbid obesity. I have considerable experience with psychological testing and use tests to help patients' physicians and psychiatrists find the optimal psychotropic medications for their symptoms. I have been trained in traditional psychodynamic therapy but also employ a variety of treatment modalities including cognitive and behavioral therapies and family therapy.

I completed a hospital internship, have taught psychology at the university level, and I am now in private practice. I frequently see patients who have been in treatment previously with little improvement. Careful diagnostic investigation often reveals an incomplete diagnosis and consequently the wrong treatment plan.
