I strongly believe in treating the person as a unique person given their individual needs. I primarily practice cognitive-behavior therapy utilizing an eclectic style and often use anecdotes, paradoxes, and especially humor in order to enhance, educate, and assist in reaching each person's goals. I have a specialty in treating Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Panic Disorders, and Anxiety. While I specialize in treating those suffering OCD, Panic, and Anxiety, I am equally proud of the successes I've had in helping those with Adjustment Disorders, Stress Management, Depression, Relationship Difficulties, and Family Concerns.

I am a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. I provide psychiatric medication management for patients 4-21 years of age. I understand that a person is more than the sum of medical conditions. Medication can help but is not a cure. I encourage patients to actively participate in their care by learning about their condition and utilizing other management strategies, such as therapy, meditation, and a healthy lifestyle. I work in partnership with patients and families to develop a treatment plan to successfully meet their goals. I am allied with the LGBTQ+ community.

As a group practice we are honored to provide Mental Health and Substance Abuse Recovery Services with a Christ centered worldview, because it takes Faith and Courage to believe your life can be transformed! The basis of our counseling perspective is a spiritual one and is first mentioned in Leviticus 19:18 of the Bible; it tells us to "love thy neighbor as thy self". This principle is the basis for our counseling perspective. With this frame-work, it is our desire to improve one's Biological, Psychological, Social and Spiritual functioning through partnership, as individuals navigate life's challenges.

I recognize each person as an individual with unique strengths, values and desires. As a part of the therapeutic process, I encourage people to identify and reflect on their own values and to improve their practice of making mindful choices based on those values. People often turn to therapy because they feel overwhelmed, alone, or disconnected. My hope for people receiving therapy is that they will experience a restoration of calm, a feeling of connectedness, and a return to a sense of normalcy. I concentrate on improving people's self-efficacy, the belief that one is able and capable.

Life can be daunting and stressful, and there are solutions. I believe it is within us all to become energized to lead happy, productive lives. Sometimes we need some extra support to reach our goals. My favorite part about being a psychotherapist is helping people realize their strengths and become empowered to lead healthy lives. This power is within all of us, and I can help you tap into it. I have a very broad background in the mental health field for the past 30 years. My practice gravitates toward helping people who are in relationship with people who have Narcissistic personality traits.

I believe that the cornerstone of effective counseling is a safe, trusting, and collaborative therapeutic relationship. I view each client as a unique person with their own story, strengths, and challenges. As a therapist, I greatly value the client as an individual and view counseling as a means of helping you achieve your personal goals for growth. I believe in treating the client as a whole: by considering the physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual components to problems and growth in order to achieve lasting change. I am able to integrate faith into the counseling process at the request of the client.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
