DBT Skills Group happening now...see flyer for information and feel free to message me. How you love yourself is how you teach others to love you. I have learned that the most important relationship a person will ever have is the relationship they have with themselves. It's important to learn how to trust yourself, love yourself, treat yourself, challenge yourself, and see yourself through someone else's eyes. It is my goal to guide others as they embark on their own journey of self.

I have experience working with individual counseling services for adolescent ages 14+, LGBTQ, adult clients, and diverse cultural backgrounds.
I believe in a person-centered approach when working with clients. In sessions I like to explore client’s strengths and weaknesses to facilitate growth in each area. I consider myself to be a very psychoeducational therapist, meaning my clients can expect to learn both inside and outside of sessions with supplemental resources or homework materials. I also believe in meeting clients where they are—no matter where you are in your journey or stage of change, human growth and development is lifelong. Are you ready to take this next step in your life?

I have a wide range of experiences and feel confident working with clients experiencing issues in the following areas: addiction, depression, relationship issues, child & adolescent issues, sexuality, bereavement, anxiety, and codependency.
I love my work and enjoy offering my clients a safe and supportive environment for them to grow and explore themselves. My style is both conversational and relational. I offer an authentic presence within a collaborative, lively relationship in which self-discovery can be non-threatening and perhaps, even fun. I am committed to sharing everything I know which I believe will help heal the difficulties in one's life. I am inspired each day by the courage clients have each moment they show up for therapy. I became a therapist because, to me, the value in life comes when you return to your value within.

Your child or teen experiences all kinds of changes related to their physical and emotional development, peer and adult relationships, and environment. Adjusting to these challenges might require developing attachment to caregivers, learning life skills, coping with developmental delays, or understanding their emotional world. Learning to thrive in their current context might be hard for your child, but not impossible. There is hope! Your child brings a unique personality and set of strengths to the table. I am passionate about helping you and them to leverage and build on these to make meaningful and lasting change.

My passion for advocacy and a client-centered approach were cultivated in my early years as an educator, but my intellectual curiosity regarding the process of personal change and the value of interpersonal relationships motivated me to returned to NKU for a Master’s degree in Social Work. Since graduating with an MSW, I have enjoyed working with a wide variety of clients in diverse settings including a hospital, court-mandated program, and most recently an outpatient office and school-based office. I provide individual therapy to children, adolescents and adults, as well as families and couples.

I believe that we can get stuck in the mire of hopelessness when we feel overwhelmed, or when our circumstances are more than we can handle. If you struggle with navigating your emotions, finding meaning/purpose, overcoming difficult or painful circumstances of the past (flashbacks, avoidance, fear, triggers) or even the present (arguments, emotional angst, numbness, irritation, anxiety, worry, hypervigilance), I want to support you. I specialize in anxiety; depression; eating disorders; relational issues; sex therapy and education, as well as helping folks work through general/sexual trauma using somatic or body-centered methods.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
