I work from a person-centered approach meeting the client where they are at, but also utilize strategies from all different practices. I believe that the client is the expert in their own life and needs someone to show empathy, support, and guidance. I have been providing psychological services to Mchenry county for the last 17 years. My experience is diverse and my approach to therapy is evidenced-based. I comprehend mental health issues from not only a psychological, but also from a social and neurological perspective. With this being stated I have developed a unique and comprehensive understanding of my clients. I have worked with several challenging clients and pride myself in my ability to modify treatment interventions for each client's unique needs. Essentially treatment is a team approach and I am here to walk with the client on the path to recovery.

My ideal client is one who is seeking help with the desire to heal. My mission is walking with them through their traumas, fears and pain - to help them find their path to inner peace and wellness. I utilize the therapy approach that is safe and comfortable for the client- whether it is Cognitive, Art Therapy or Sand Play Therapy. I address each client as an individual with their special needs. Many of my clients have faced the ramifications of divorce, domestic violence, sexual abuse and other change of life events.

I enjoy working with all my clients. I work with children, adolescents, and adults with a myriad of issues. I have a particular expertise and understanding working with trauma issues. I have 15 years of police experience that allows me to better understand the needs of the service professionals (police, fire, nurses, military, etc.) clients and their families and how best to help them in a compassionate and caring way. The needs of these individuals can be unique. From substance abuse and anger control to depression and suicidal ideation, the stressors of these individuals require an understanding and knowledge, which I have.

My passion is to assist my clients in identifying and building upon their own strengths throughout the treatment process. Together we can create a safe, welcoming, confidential, and supportive environment. In doing so, we are better able to prepare for and overcome times of crisis. My wide array of experience comes from a variety of inpatient, outpatient, non-profit, childcare, and educational settings. I am heavily involved in the McHenry County Suicide Prevention Task Force and take a special interest in working with those struggling with self-injurious behaviors, suicidal ideation, and/or suicide bereavement.

I hold a Masters in Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling, Post-Masters Certificate in Addictions Counseling and undergraduate degrees in Legal Studies and Psychology.
