I specialize in adolescent and pre-adolescent boys (middle school) for a variety of issues including Asperger's Syndrome, oppositional defiance, ADHD, anxiety, and depression.
I work with clients to identify the core issues you struggle with and how you can deal with them to meet your goals. Sometimes, this has to do with dealing with other people and things around us. Other times, it is our own internal thoughts and struggles that get in the way.

I have experience working with children, adolescent, young adult and adults with behavioral issues, ADHD, autism spectrum, anxiety, depression and self-esteem issues.
It can be difficult to reach out for help at times. It shows bravery and strength and may take personal motivation to do so. Reaching out is that first step showing you have what takes to heal. I will meet you at your point of need. I help clients like you develop the skills needed to create change, accomplish goals, and live a healthier happier life. With success we begin to change our beliefs that were creating hardship to ones that create growth, health, confidence, and acceptance. I strive to treat every person as family with a warm, compassionate approach.

We serve child, adolescent and adult clients, and have a very unique and effective approach to family therapy and couples work.
I am trained in Rational Emotive Behavioral therapy and the Psycho-dynamic models. My experience includes work with adolescents and young adults with behavioral and/or mood disorders in both outpatient and residential settings. At Northwestern I studied psycho-therapeutic practices while learning new breakthroughs in treatment. The program was conceptualized in the context of ethics, multiculturalism, lifespan development, advocacy and community outreach. I am as dedicated to helping fellow military and police personnel who are currently or formerly serving as I was. Schedule your next appointment with our certified counselors

Personally, I know how difficult it was for me to get out of bed when suffering from depression and anxiety and to go about the everyday when concerned about having another panic attack. I know how valuable it was for me to have someone to talk to that wouldn't judge me or make me feel guilty about being exactly where I was at the time. The idea of "you should be fine", or "you have no reason to be anxious or depressed" is hurtful and doesn't help.

The therapeutic relationship and the experiences it fosters serves as a type of mirror—it’s a safe space to explore oneself. My role is to hold space, ask pertinent questions, and listen to you completely. My approach is one of collaboration. I might be an "expert" in mental health, but you're the expert of YOU. We'll co-create therapeutic goals, partner together in devising a plan to achieve your goals, and give space for your expansion and evolution.

Life can be overwhelming and stressful. Taking the first step to make changes in your life can be scary. Engaging in counseling is courageous. There is no need to have it together, or know where to begin. Your therapy is customized to you so it starts with learning your story and understanding your needs. We will then work together to create the life you want to start living.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
