I specialize in working with children, adolescent, and teens who are experiencing various problems (behavioral, anxiety, bullying, anger, etc).
Different challenges can cause us to fill "stuck", "overwhelmed", and "anxious". My experiences as a psychotherapist have taught me that all challenges can be opportunities for growth and empowerment. With years of experience, my goal as your psychotherapist is to assist you in finding balance and peace within yourself to overcome the challenges you are facing or have faced. Sometimes, you just need someone to listen. My job is to go beyond listening and build on your strengths, work through your problem(s), and assist you in making those changes that empower you to create a more fulfilling life.

Life can seem like a barrage of stimuli hurling at us. This makes it difficult to listen quietly and to be led intuitively. How do You respond? We all react differently or sometimes even destructively, manifesting in attempts at control, or feeling insecure and compulsive. If one feels anxious, afraid, and uncertain while trying to do life, the struggle to figure things out can seem even less navigable. I seek to create a safe environment that allows people in pain, emotional paralysis, fear, self harm, sadness, etc... to experience hope and gain practical skills in order to navigate their lives with more savvy and confidence.

“Know thyself” it’s the only effective path to understand who you truly are and how to deal with unresolved issues. Recognizing that our past does affect our present will open doors to a brighter future. In a safe space where my patients are carefully listened to, I guide them through a profound exploration of their inner selves where their pace, individuality, and needs are respected. Noteworthy, I’m a licensed Mental Health Counselor who proudly graduated from UCF - top 10 counseling program in the nation. For many of us, life is often difficult. Whether it's addiction, depression, anxiety, relationships, or just the pain of growing up, there are many different struggles we find ourselves over our lifetime. Counseling is meant to be a place where we are able to walk through the struggles and find both real hope and practical help. I work with adults and adolescents walking through a wide variety of life struggles not just to relieve pain, but to find fulfillment and balance in life as a whole.

“Owning our story can be hard, but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it. Embracing our vulnerabilities is risky, but not nearly as dangerous as giving up on love and belonging and joy- the experiences that make us the most vulnerable. Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light.” -Brené Brown

Counseling will provide you with the support and stability to create new coping strategies and process the ways your life has shaped you. I want you to leave counseling with the strength and power to confidently take on any situation!

My ideal client is a human of all ages and backgrounds (and I don't mind an occasional canine or feline either.) My first career as an educator has gifted me the ability to work with adolescents and younger people, but where ever you are on your journey my clients are seeking to uncover their authentic selves. I will provide a safe and therapeutic environment for you to process internal and external expectations while deepening compassion and love for yourself. You will begin to thrive in your interpersonal relationships while learning to love and fully accept yourself...and we may even have a little fun in the process.

Interested in bettering your self and your life? Great, I would LOVE to help. My favorite thing about being a counselor is creating that safe space for someone to feel comfortable enough to let their true selves be seen. In my office, there is no need to apologize for being yourself and saying what's really on your mind. After building a strong connection, you and I will come up with a plan to help you achieve your goals with intent to create a more peaceful, joyful and meaningful life.

Our focus is to create balance and wellness in people's lives through a harmony between physical and mental health wellness. We want to create a space where our clients of all backgrounds feel safe to be transparent and honest about the experiences they have in order to affect change in their lives. We also want to highlight the experiences of inequity in our society and to those that are disproportionately affected, we are here to empower and support you as you learn to heal from these experiences. We understand that being males in the mental health field is a rarity and encourage more boys/men to prioritize their mental health.

I believe all humans will experience stress, suffering, uncertainty, and ultimately death. I also believe many of our issues come from how we face these inevitable aspects of being human. As early as childhood we begin learning how to survive in this world. We learn patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving that are meant to protect us, and perhaps do so for a period of time, but at some point become ineffective or even destructive. These patterns inhibit our ability to experience a life of meaning, connection, growth, and peace.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
