If you want to work on your relationship to food & body, heal pain in your history, and increase self-compassion, I'd love to walk with you. In our sessions, we will explore who you are and what matters to you. We will tackle thought patterns that aren't serving you and work on new ways to interact with your thoughts and feelings that serve you more effectively. I have found that the clients I am most "in my element" with are teens and young adults. When working with teens, I also work with parents to help them navigate supporting their teen at home.

Everyone wants to be heard, seen, and understood. However, we often don't feel those things in life, especially when we have experienced trauma. It is easy to feel alone as you struggle in silence. However, you are not alone. I aim to create a safe, warm, empathetic space so you or your child/adolescent can find relief and power in sharing your story. I specialize in working with children and adolescents, as well as with adults who have experienced trauma. Working with children and adolescents gives me a unique perspective to help adults addressing childhood trauma. I provide individual and family therapy and parent coaching.

As a teen and into my twenties, I often felt seen but unknown.
I work with college students and parents of high school students who are smart, creative, and are struggling with their social/emotional lives. Oftentimes, the transition from high school to college and/or just becoming an emerging adult is stressful, confusing, and can give these young adults a sense of depression, entitlement, and/or anxiety. I am here to help them identify their true callings, learn to navigate healthy friendships, and establish a firm identity so they can become the very Masterpieces that God intends them to be and accomplish the good works He has already planned for them to do.

Anxiety leaves us feeling on edge, over-controlled, and disconnected from our true selves. You’re someone who tries every stress relief technique in the book, but still finds yourself worried, feeling exhausted and empty at the end of each day. Constantly filling up other people’s cups– at work, in relationships, with family and friends, but who is filling up your cup? You’re ready to make a change. You’re ready to lessen the emotional burden. You’re ready to set boundaries and keep them. Most of all, you’re ready to break the patterns that leave you feeling stuck. I want to help you get there.

Do you feel hopeless or alone? Do you or someone you know struggle with alcohol or other substances? Have you been wishing that you could go back to the early days of drinking? Are you being dishonest about how much you drink or use? Maybe you have been questioning what happened and how did I get here? When we consume alcohol or other substances we are looking for a release. Some people can find this without the damaging effects it can create on our lives. Some of us are no longer able to do this. If you are looking for greater connection and other ways to relax and find comfort, I can help.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
