For over a decade I have been helping children, adolescent and adult clients overcome a myriad of issues.
I have been working with families for over 10 years. My work has taken me from the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains to as far as the California coast. Throughout my practice I have worked with children, adolescents and adult clients on a variety of issues including PTSD, depression, anxiety, adjustment to life changes, anger & behavior management, as well as development of parenting skills amongst others. I firmly believe that utilizing empathy, unconditional positive regard and genuineness, combined with effective coping skills is the best way to help my clients meet their goals.

I am a therapist that believes in change, that each individual has the ability to self-heal, but sometimes needs some support to do so. Navigating our world and lives can be hard, and you don’t have to go through it alone. My role as your therapist (or your child's) is to act as a supportive agent, where we work collaboratively to achieve the goals you set for yourself. You would be encouraged to express your own experience through activities, verbalizations, or a combination that feels best to you in a safe space. I do my best to make sure everyone who comes into my office feels accepted as themselves, with no judgement whatsoever.

If college is the best four years of your life, then why do you feel like this? Stressed and alone. Surrounded by people, but struggling to connect. Wanting love, but tired of the games and swiping. Scared of the real world, and still stuck with that vape habit and yoyo diet from high school. Or maybe you were so excited for parenthood, but not for this. This is so loud and hard and nothing like the pictures online. Life transitions - my favorites being college and parenthood - can shake you up and reveal cracks you never knew were there, but they can also shake you loose from your old habits so you can grow.

Although we can't change difficult situations of the past, we can move toward greater self understanding and more fulfilling relationships in the present. I engage with you based on a relationship of two people coming together as equals within the safety of the therapeutic container. My focus is on interpersonal relationship, however, I include art, music, movement, play, and guided imagery as another means to connect with each other and to free the imagination for self discovery.

Supporting and empowering clients who are battling depression, trauma, anxiety, grief, self-esteem, relationship and interpersonal challenges is a deep passion and calling of mine. Too often, we feel like we are alone, inherently flawed or doing aspects of life wrong.

Carl Rogers once said, "When I accept myself just as I am, then I change." When it comes to mental health, sometimes we just need a space that allows for that; a space to be - to express, to reflect, and to release. Counseling may be that space for you or someone you know. Whether you're struggling with a current state, a past experience, or are looking for new ways to encourage your well-being and growth, I would be honored to support you.

Finding the right fit with a therapist is so important, but it can feel uncomfortable (sometimes scary) meeting for a first session with a stranger and not knowing if they're going to be a good fit. I'd love the opportunity to get to talk with you; it's my goal to create a safe, warm, and welcoming space where you feel heard, felt, and able to pursue change at your pace. If we meet and you end up feeling I’m not the right fit, I'll be happy to help you find a therapist who you feel is right for YOU. Therapy isn’t about me, it’s about you finding the space and tangible resources you need on your life journey.

Sometimes we can feel as if on a mountaintop with a sense of clarity and other times in a valley unable to see the next step. Life is a journey with experiences and seasons where we can all use some help along the way. Whether it be marriage, dating, work, friendships, or family dynamics, relationships can be complex. Through life's complexities we can learn and grow. I believe everyone deserves to experience joy and live an abundant life. By living authentically to ourselves and others we can become the best version of ourselves. My desire is to meet you where you are and collaboratively work with you to reach your full potential.

During any stage of life we are faced with challenges of many kinds. And these trials can keep anyone in the dark, not realizing that hope can be found. If you're someone who is trying to figure out who you are in the world, trying to find their way, or who just needs a solid connection with a partner; if you recognize a problem and a longing for change or struggling with overwhelming thoughts and emotions that keep you pushed away, leaving you in the dark, then you’re not alone and I’m here to help.

Sometimes making it through the day is an uphill battle. Things you used to love no longer seem to be enjoyable, everyday tasks are overwhelming, and existing is starting to feel exhausting. Other times you don't feel terrible, but you don't feel good either. You know you aren't quite your usual self but despite all your effort to fix it things just aren't where you want them to be - you're feeling stuck no matter how much progress you make. If this sounds familiar, I can provide you with support to find a foothold to help you start living your life again.

If you're here, it's likely that you're concerned about your child's ability to handle big feelings and life situations. Maybe you've noticed that they are spending a lot of time worrying, having trouble with friends, or perhaps are acting out at school. As a counselor, I'm here to support your child in finding their own path towards self-discovery and growth. My approach is centered on the power of play, which I believe is one of the most important tools for supporting children in their journey towards emotional well-being.

I work with adults, adolescents, couples, and families to develop an understanding of ourselves and how we are influenced by events, relationships, and expectations. With this knowledge, we can explore past experiences and current stressors to identify how they impact us directly. Together, we can develop an understanding of life that provides opportunities for change and growth.

Teen Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
