Sonya Madden is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with 4 years of experience working with a variety of populations including individuals, couples, and families. She is passionate about working collaboratively with clients to help them work towards their goals and find healing. Sonya specializes in depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship issues, and women's issues. Sonya earned her MA in Marriage and Family Therapy from Regis University, where she graduated with honors.

We all face struggles, trauma, hurt, betrayal, abuse, sickness, sadness, anxiety, and the various other emotions of life’s journey, but if we have hope, we as individuals can triumph. One of my core beliefs is that we are each created as unique individuals, and my role is to partner and journey with my clients as they search for meaning, healing, and, most of all, hope. We are constantly bombarded with messages telling us that we need to do it all on our own. I have good news- you are not alone and you don't have to do it on your own! We all have a deep desire to be fully known and fully loved. It is my belief that we can't be fully known and loved by others until we fully know and love ourselves. Having a strong sense of identity and purpose allows us to heal, forgive, and move forward with clarity, hope, and tenacity.

I have learned the importance of blending evidence-based care with a unique individualized approach tailored to the needs and desires of the individual; therefore, I practice a multi-modal approach that mixes neuroscience and psychology. I have served underprivileged communities, worked with survivors and perpetrators of sexual and gender violence and have specialized training working with addictions, and promoting mind-body wellness.

Carl Rogers said, “People are just as wonderful as sunsets if you let them be.” Carl Rogers' words have influenced my approach to therapy. Every client has unique challenges and perspective that requires unique therapy. I combine Person Centered Therapy, Behavior Therapy, and Play Therapy techniques. When working with adolescents and adults, I approach our work through a Person Centered lens and believe you are the expert in your own life. Children sometimes struggle in a traditional therapy session, I provide Child Centered Play Therapy for children indicated for that modality and I am also a Certified AutPlay Therapy Provider.

I sincerely believe that one's perception is their reality, and understanding that perception allows me to connect with them in a more therapeutic manner. Each client brings their own unique story, and hearing that story brings valuable insight. My goals in the therapeutic setting are to earn and build client trust, to always be authentic, to model empathy and warmth, to employ unconditional positive acceptance, to assist with reframing problematic thinking to foster potential solutions for happiness and healing, and to foster development of healthy coping skills as needed.

Four hours of sleep, 20 minutes late to work, and five espresso shots later…you’re day has started. And it’s come with a ton of anxiety and negative thoughts. The “fun” part? It doesn’t stop there - it bleeds into your day and evening - more tense moments with the kids, drinks to cope, and struggling to just BE. And sure, if this kind of day only happened here and there, that would be doable. But when it feels like this has been your usual for way too long…it sucks. And all you want…is some goddamn relief. Just to rest, to feel settled and at ease in your own body…your own life. And you can absolutely have this.

Now accepting new clients! We all need someone to talk to, someone to listen to us with out bias or judgment, someone who really hears us, understands us and is compassionate and understanding. Sometimes life gets in the way and we need someone to stand next to us and help us walk through it. I have experience working with all demographics and those from all walks of life.
