I am a therapist with ADHD, so I love working with clients who have ADHD. I think our similar brains strengthen our understanding of each other and therefore our therapeutic connection. I will never tell you to just “try harder” or “buy a planner” or other things that neurotypicals have said to you (although I do love some good office supplies). Everyone with ADHD is different and deserves personalized exploration of their needs and barriers to help manage symptoms and achieve functioning goals. I also love working with couples who have ADHD, including mixed neurotype couples who are working to better understand one another.

I primarily work with adolescents, adults, and families facing challenges with ADHD, anxiety, depression, substance use, chronic pain, and trauma.
As a therapist I believe in a strengths-based approach to counseling in which growth comes from a person's own values, goals, and desire to implement impactful changes in their lives. I also encourage a collaborative approach to therapy – I am simply a guide who has developed an expertise in supporting the goals of my clients or helping them develop goals which feel personally meaningful. Through identity exploration and development, values building, and symptom reduction, my goal is to lend support to an individual's growing sense of competence, confidence, and empowerment.

Hi, I'm Jessica! I help folx with ADHD in adulthood better understand themselves, find a sense of peace, and thrive. I know living with ADHD can be challenging, do any of these sound familiar? You’re a people-pleaser and struggle to advocate for yourself. You seem to have it “all together” from the outside but internally are struggling with anxiety, loneliness, self-doubt, or burnout. You struggle with procrastination, keeping track of all the tasks on your plate, leading to overwhelm. You feel like no one quite fully understands you. It feels like it’s so much easier for everyone else to accomplish goals.

I work with adults regarding perinatal mental health, parenting issues, ADHD, life transitions, and anxiety/depression.
Every life is a series of transitions, some of which can feel impossible to navigate. People and families can often feel ‘stuck’ in their current struggles and unable to overcome the challenges and changes they are experiencing. Whether the tough moments are navigating issues in daily life or processing landmark events such as pregnancy or parenthood, the need for support is valid and you don’t have to push through alone. Therapy helps you develop the tools and knowledge needed to bring out your unique strengths and abilities. No matter what age or life stage you are in, healing is possible.

Hi there! I am currently accepting new Telehealth clients in Washington and North Carolina. Learning to trust someone is hard, but having to face difficult experiences alone can be even harder. Hi there! My strongest source of learning as a therapist has been getting to witness remarkable acts of courage by people facing seemingly insurmountable odds. It takes bravery to look within. I believe in helping people feel safe in their bodies again, safe to feel and express their emotions, and trust in their inner wisdom. I value truly understanding and connecting with those I see, and cultivating a space where you are free and comfortable to let your guard down. Whether you’re looking for concrete skills, wanting to dive deep into territory uncharted, or a bit of both, I will tailor my approach to meet your needs and goals.

Everyone is welcome in my office; I am honored to work with and witness folks from all walks of life. I specialize in working with queer and trans folks, especially those with neurodiversity, and people exploring and practicing non-monogamy. I'm passionate about identity development; discovering and vocalizing boundaries; and understanding how values change as we unpack internalized oppression and look at your life experiences. Therapy helps us gather an understanding of how the world views us, and reorient to stand up for our full selves.

Over time we develop patterns of behavior that may have once supported us through a difficult time, but these ways of being may be hurting our ability to connect with loved ones or form new connections. Through our work together, we will reflect on how your past experiences may influence who you are today and identify interventions to support you in connecting with who you want to become. In addition to working with individuals, I enjoy supporting people better engage in the important relationships in their lives; this may be within a couple, but can also be in a parent-child relationship.

My practice specializes in gender identity development and sexual orientation. I primarily work with adolescents and young adults (as well as adults beginning to question their identity). Therapy focuses on anxiety management, gender dysphoria, coming out, improving self-esteem, connection to community, relationship skills, and the process of transitioning (if desired). Whether someone is exploring new feelings or has identified as LGBTQ+ for years, the challenges they face may bring up feelings of anxiety, stress, confusion, and even anger. Working with an experienced therapist trained in gender and sexual minority issues can help.

ADHD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
