We provide a range of psychological evaluations in Harrisonburg–for children, teens, and adults. Assessments for dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia (learning disabilities in reading, writing, and math). We also provide evaluations for ADHD and autism. And, because many of our clients also struggle with anxiety, depression, or similar, we can help sort out how these impact day-to-day functioning.

Dr. Rachel Spurrier is a licensed clinical psychologist administering comprehensive psychological evaluations to clarify client diagnosis as well as to provide recommendations for treatment. Dr. Spurrier has administered testing to clients with concerns related to depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, adjustment disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), learning disabilities, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Her goal with clients is to make them feel comfortable and secure with the evaluative process, and to understand the importance of testing as they progress in their therapeutic treatment.

As a parent and a psychologist, I believe there is nothing more important than the well being of our children. For over thirty years, I have specialized in providing psychological therapy and psychoeducational testing services to children and adolescents in the Winchester area. I believe in the notion that to tap a child's potential, we need to focus on his or her strengths. Psychological testing enables us to determine just what those strenghts are, and if there are significant weaknesses, direct intervention strategies are outlined and put into play. I enjoy helping individuals in need. I have an eclectic approach but rely heavily on mindfulness and solution focused therapy. I am very straight forward in my approach, and focus on individuals, adolescents, adults couples. I specialize in teenagers and young adults.

Currently accepting adolescents, young adults, and adults seeking short term therapy to create a better version of themselves. I work with clients who have a history of trauma and wish to overcome past issues to focus on the present. I specialize in therapy for those who are struggling with a recent stressor/traumatic event(s), such as an unexpected pregnancy, transition into a new role (parent/promotion), loss of a loved one, serious car accident, loss of job, recent move, diagnosis of a chronic illness, change in family dynamic, etc. My priority for individuals is to promote healing in a safe place where their story can be told.

Parenting is one of the most rewarding yet challenging jobs that exists. I specialize in helping families thrive. I understand that this happens when parents and children enjoy strong, supportive and nurturing relationships.

In over 30 years of practice, I have discovered that my clients want more than relief from their symptoms. Accepting New Clients. I offer HIPPA compliant online video counseling sessions as well as in-person sessions. Depression, anxiety and adjustment issues are areas in which I have extensive experience. Adult Children of Alcoholics and persons dealing with narcissitic abuse are specialty areas in which I work. I have a great affinity for working with clients who are suffering with grief and loss issues such as a death or loss of a relationship.
