I am an expert on issues related to parenting, ADHD, reconnecting adolescents to their parents, mid-life transitions, grief and loss and using mindfulness and creativity to calm down, focus and be more present in your life.
My goal is to help you get unstuck. You will begin to feel better just by taking the first step. Serious problems often need someone to both listen and offer alternative ways for thinking in order to make changes that last. Doing nothing and just hoping and wishing that things will get better doesn't work. I will prompt you and support you in taking concrete steps. I talk straight, listen closely and respectfully ask good questions. Starting with our first session, you will begin to figure out a new way to go. Let's talk soon about beginning.

I have worked for 18 years as a transition specialist and special education teacher specializing in ADHD, ADD, emotional disturbances and other at-risk populations.
When a person realizes that self awareness is the long term solution, they will seek only to understand themselves. No longer do they seek to blame the outside world for their thoughts or feelings. My ideal client is one who seeks to do the work to evolve . Together we start the journey to locate the "inner" barriers that may be holding you back. We do the work to gain control of your thoughts and feelings that are keeping you feeling "stuck". Lasting relief comes from learning techniques which are less about problem-solving and more about letting-go of old beliefs and habits. Know thyself and the whole world changes!

I treat depression, anxiety, trauma (abuse and/or single incident trauma); anger problems, grief, ADHD, in adults and minors; poor adjustment to life transitions, relationship difficulties and the impact of family of origin relationships, or other past relationships, in current functioning.
My treatment approach is person-centered. I bring an empathic, genuine, active and non-judgmental attitude to my encounter with each client to facilitate a safe and collaborative exploration of contributing factors to the problem (s) addressed in therapy, which in turn allows me to draw from interventions that best fit the client. My treatment philosophy is that the aim of psychotherapy is about helping clients feel better and to be empowered with gained awareness of themselves and their life situation (s) and skills with which to lead a more satisfying life.

For the past 19 years I have enjoyed working with a diverse group of patients that are challenged with depression, anxiety, PTSD, ADHD and obsessive compulsive behaviors. It is remarkable how patients begin to feel happier and important when they stop ignoring their physical and emotional needs. I love working with patients that seek to create a balance between their body, mind and spirit. I enjoy being flexible and learning what each individual is comfortable with, and work from their baseline to establish reasonable goals.

I have experience treating abuse, trauma, mental illness, learning disabilities, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, and ADHD.
Couples seeking a deeper connection in their relationship with their partner need to learn how to speak about and listen to their partner's dreams, inner world, and viewpoint. Often couples feel a sense of disconnection and distance from their partner, who was once their friend and admirer. Couples also want to stop feeling stuck in the same cycles of arguing and miscommunication. They want to start resolving problems and work towards compromise with each other. They want their dreams to come true and create a sense of shared meaning together. If you have lost your partner's love map, I am here to help you find it.

If you are reading this, you may be going through a particularly rough patch. Or, you could be ready to face something that's been difficult for too long. How would it be to have a companion on the road--someone who knows short cuts, has walked similar terrain, and will stick with you when you lose your way and your temper? An individual therapist can serve as a guide to your own best self. I work primarily with adolescents and adults who have depression, anxiety disorders, ADHD, trauma, difficulty with emotional regulation, LGBTQ concerns, or (most often) some combination.

ADHD Therapists
Some children and adults with ADHD find it difficult to concentrate on tasks at school or work and may daydream frequently. Children with ADHD may become disruptive, defiant, or have trouble getting along with parents, peers, or teachers. Children who struggle with hyperactivity and impulsivity, in particular, often have behavioral challenges that can be difficult for adults to manage. Adults, on the other hand, may be more likely to report feeling restless or fidgety; if they struggle with impulsivity, they may make rash decisions that adversely affect their life. For both children and adults, executive functioning (planning, emotional regulation, and decision-making) is often affected as well. Many children and adults display either hyperactive or inattentive symptoms of ADHD, but it’s also possible for both sets of symptoms to exist together, in what is typically called combined type ADHD.

If you're looking for a Fairfax ADHD therapist, these professionals provide ADHD therapy and counseling in Fairfax.
