As a Registered Play Therapist and a Licensed Professional Counselor, I use play therapy tools to develop the heart, mind and soul of children. After working with children and families in private practice and in school settings for many years, my passion is to empower my clients through play. Through their natural language, play, children can express their emotions and start to heal. I specialize in working with children ages 4 years to 12 years but can work with all ages and adults. Common issues I treat are: trauma, fear, anxiety, anger, loss and grief, ADHD, change in their families, and social anxiety, various school issues.

I have decades of experience and extensive training in trauma, substance abuse, ADHD, depression, and anxiety. I have a wealth of knowledge about the legal, school, and healthcare systems. I am comfortable working with people from every walk of life, including those who are people of color, disabled, and/or who identify as LGBTQ+. I specialize in working with adolescents and have worked with numerous trauma survivors. Mental health issues are often the direct result, not of individual responses to stress, but a reaction to a variety of societal ills - racism, homophobia and transphobia, ableism, economic inequality, etc.

Many people seek therapy because they want answers to their problems, for example, a diagnosis, a treatment plan, etc. It can be enormously helpful to have an understanding of one's problems and coping patterns. The initial phase of any treatment is to develop a clear understanding of the problem and possible interventions, including behavioral and lifestyle changes, etc. At the same time, change is rarely the product of finding a specific intervention, but is often the process of finding better questions. People grow and change through relationships; and psychotherapy is a special kind of relationship that facilitates this process.

Imani Behavioral Health was started in May of 2018 as a way to serve the community with a multicultural team of professionals providing quality services through a multitude of therapeutic specialties.
