I am experienced with relationship/marital concerns, ADHD, and career changes.
For a moment, consider life as a roller coaster. When you are waiting in line, life may move slowly or you may feel stuck. Other times, you may be thrown for a scary loop and have difficulty hanging on or managing the various twists and curves. I am committed to joining you for the ride, providing a safe and nurturing environment, assisting you as you set and reach goals, and being your biggest cheerleader as you create meaningful change and positive health. I also believe in teaching and mentoring, and therefore have 2 counselors in training that are available to help too with a significant sliding fee scale rate.

One of the greatest challenges we face, as we enter psychotherapy, is uncovering and addressing the deeper emotional wounds and trauma that are manifesting in our lives as depression, anxiety, ADHD and behavioral problems.
We are products of our environment, experiences and relationships. Along the way, we have gathered deeply internalized beliefs - some that serve our growth and wellbeing, some that don’t - emotions, both positive and negative, and chronic stress or trauma. All of this has impacted our life and much of what has happened in the past still resides deeply in our body, manifesting as behavioral, relational or emotional struggles, often unexplained and sometimes inexplicable.

Assisting in helping you create a better quality of life through self-empowerment and authentic choice would be my hope for you. Often, we feel overwhelmed when we struggle with anxiety, depression, life transitions, and unexpected life challenges. This can cause us to question our value in various aspects of life. I believe that individuals carry knowledge and beliefs about themselves that at times and for various reasons, they are unable to access. My hope is that through our work together, we can open those spaces. Approaching the counseling process through kindness and self-compassion, as well as empowerment and authenticity.

With over 16 years experience as a licensed therapist, I'm passionate about building rapport and, from this basis, providing high-quality treatment. In working with couples, I maintain a good therapeutic relationship with both clients and take a balanced approach where each partner is empowered to speak up and share in their progress. When working with anxious clients, I assist clients in defining what anxiety is and what it does so that they can recognize and challenge it as they develop new coping skills. In treating trauma, I help clients feel empowered to step into their work before starting Brainspotting or EMDR sessions.

Life happens and it can be very, very difficult and even totally overwhelming from time to time. Counseling can help you navigate through those challenging times no matter the circumstances. If you are struggling with anxiety, depression, overcoming abuse or a history of violence, behavioral issues, grief, difficulty adjusting, or just need to learn more healthy and effective coping skills, do consider giving counseling a try. If you want to change and are willing to truly try, that is all it takes.

I am a virtual Licensed Clinical Social Worker therapist in CA, SC and AK, I utilize a relatively active therapeutic modality. For the client, this means that we participate in discussions and explorations. Trauma or other painful emotional experiences can lead to overwhelming emotions in “utter aloneness”; undoing that aloneness through a supportive and encouraging relationship with your therapist is key to healing. Many therapists focus on what is wrong with a person; I focus on what is right and potentially transformative.

Lonely, anxious, depressed, frustrated, angry, confused? Psychotherapy can be an important step toward seeking change, resolving issues and focusing on personal growth. Each person who begins therapy has different needs and goals making the therapeutic relationship unique. Life brings challenges, obstacles and burdens that can cause many feelings and emotions; sometimes paralyzing us towards a direction. Therapy is not a mystery but rather a process where healing is facilitated in a caring environment.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
