Does someone acting “off” ignite your anxiety? Exploring your ADHD? Or an adoptee navigating complex feelings? Deal with all 3? I’m here to help guide your quest to heal. Attachment issues leave you cautious & uneasy with others. Your mind struggles to stop the spiral of fears it creates. You’ve learned to mask to seem “fine” to others-but now see how much it affected you. As a fellow adoptee & ADHDer, I too know the confusion & hurt these wounds bring. Ready to leave the guilt behind & finally embrace the full you? Here you’ll learn skills to confidently handle what life throws at you & take time to heal the hurt in a healthy way.

I have worked in private practice, in-home, and clinic settings addressing mental health concerns including: borderline personality disorder, ADHD, anxiety, self-esteem, and trauma.
My goal is to always provide a place of acceptance and safety. I work to empower others to feel a sense of belonging and explore their potential. We are all two sides of the same coin; both strong and vulnerable, confident and insecure, emotional and logical. None of these are more important or valuable than the other, but all are intricate pieces that make up the human experience deserving of a voice and validation.

Some of the topics Emily works with include trauma, anxiety/depression, ADHD, addiction, relationship issues, and more.
Many of us long for genuine connection and safety in relation to ourselves and others. Sometimes we want to better understand who we are and where we came from, but it can feel daunting to even know where to begin. Other times, we hope for tools and understanding that can enable us to feel more regulated, as we move forward through challenging moments. Whatever it is that brought you here today, Emily finds it to be an honor to walk alongside you. Through a fostering of safety and trust in the therapeutic relationship, she strives to create healthy settings for change, growth, and healing.

I also work with many people who have adult ADHD diagnoses in managing their lives, their feelings about the diagnosis, and the toll ADHD can take on their lives and relationships.
I am a particularly good fit for clients who tend to intellectualize their problems and who are uncomfortable/unaccustomed to tapping into their emotions. I am a more interactive therapist. I see therapy as a conversation. If you are someone who has been frustrated by therapists who are detached, I may be a good fit for you. I am patient and I will not push you into going deeper than you feel comfortable with at the moment. I know that change and trust are slow processes and I will respect your ability to set the pace of your own therapy.

ADHD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
