The Nurtured Heart Approach is my go to strategy for parents struggling with children with ADHD and other intense behaviors.
Are you struggling with the pressures of life? Do you have strong, over whelming emotions that seem to come from out of nowhere? Do you feel angry, or irritable, most of the time and don’t know why? Perhaps you don’t feel anything at all, and wish there was more to life than what you are experiencing now. Perhaps you already have a mental health diagnosis or another diagnosis of infertility or cancer or are struggling with a chronic illness. Are you part of the military, or a military family member, and are struggling with all that comes with that role including traumatic experiences, secondary trauma, and stress from many moves?

I specialize in ADHD, Anxiety and Panic Disorders, Life Transitions, Crisis Intervention and Suicidal Ideation, Parental Support, and Sex and Intimacy Issues.
I received both my bachelor's degree and my master's degree from the University of Iowa. I am currently a licensed LMSW who is working toward independent clinical licensure. While my specialties are ADHD and anxiety and panic disorders, I mainly just enjoy connecting with folks who have identified that therapy might be helpful for them. I like building relationships and getting to know people through the therapeutic lens. While I primarily use CBT, ACT, and DBT, I believe that a safe space wherein someone can be vulnerable and authentic is the strongest foundation for healing.

Serving adults, kids, and teens, I know all the challenges and transitions we face in life can be overwhelming. It can be so difficult to feel whole and healthy after experiencing hardship, trauma, anxiety, depression, or high levels of stress. If you-or someone you love-is feeling stuck, ungrounded, or overwhelmed, I offer guidance to heal deeply. Using techniques that address body/mind/soul, I invite you to heal in a way that honors all that you are, & all that you've been through. With the right support, the severity of symptoms of ADHD, depression & anxiety, life transitions, grief, or other struggles can be reduced.

Ever feel like you don't have anything left to give? Or that your life is broken beyond repair? Difficult changes, ADHD, relationship challenges, anxiety, depression, addiction, and trauma can leave us feeling like it's just too much. It can be hard to feel any hope when these challenges seem determined to crush us into oblivion. It's hard to understand why these things happen, especially since you are genuinely trying. Perhaps people say that you just need to try harder, have more faith, or accept accountability for "poor decisions." They might not understand, but I do. I've been there and know that there is a pathway through.

ADHD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
