My primary focus in private practice is evaluation and assessment for a variety of psychological conditions, such as ADHD, Autism, Mood Disorders, Learning Disabilities and Personality Disorders. The second focus I have is treatment. I have an integrative approach to therapy in which I use multiple modalities that fit my clients’ individual needs. Some of the modalities I use are interpersonal therapy, supportive therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy. I also view other factors that can affect the client, such as cultural, medical, and environmental factors.

Types of evaluations might include: ADHD • Autism • Learning Disability • IQ Testing • Diagnostic Clarification • Malingering • Personality Assessment • Testing Accommodations.
I provide psychological assessment of mood, psychosis, trauma, developmental, and personality concerns. The consequences of a problem are often apparent, such as when a child is experiencing academic problems at school, or an adult struggles to maintain personal or professional relationships. The problem itself, however, can often be unclear. A quality assessment can provide you with a heightened understanding of your functioning, including your strengths and growth areas. The assessment will include practical recommendations to enhance the quality of your personal, work, or academic functioning.

My areas of specialty are specific to depression and mood disorders, grief and life transitions, adult ADHD and trauma based challenges.
Often times there are aspects of ourselves that we ignore, or push away to avoid experiencing pain or emotions that can feel unbearable. Pushing away parts of ourselves has an impact on our ability to connect with who we are as a whole person. My approach in therapy involves looking at all of these parts within our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual zones and examining the way they interact with one another. I work in partnership with my clients to support them in discovering their unique path, what's important to them and the ability to access their truest self.

I work with depression, bipolar disorder, panic disorder, ADHD, grief and recovery from abuse.
There comes a time when we need help. I appreciate the courage anyone demonstrates when they make that call. I hope to create a space where individuals and families can receive that trusted assistance. I have been a therapist for thirty years. I was a tennis pro for ten years before that. I am aware of the process of change. There is a timing when an individual, or family, is ready to make those adjustments. In working with children, I involve the whole family. I especially enjoy the travels that the adolescent makes, and the perplexing attempts parents make in adjusting to this challenging phase. I work with addictions.

Looking for more joy and meaning in life? Using an eclectic approach, I work with adults and young adults to discover their natural strengths. Part of being human includes being confronted with obstacles that hinder our wellbeing and meaning in life. I enjoy assisting people in creating ways to remove those obstacles. Even in the midst of little hope, I think we all need to be reminded of the joy and wonder in life.

Need online therapy? I can help you feel better from the comfort of your own home. Times are tough right now. You're stressed. Life bombards you with too much: too much information, too much social media, too many chores, too many choices and demands, and you feel you fall short. Most of us struggle to adjust to changes in our lives, especially for families that travel, move often, expatriate, or have unconventional living arrangements. As a parent, if your child/teen is struggling, you can often feel helpless, not knowing what you can or "should" do to help them. Therapy offers a space for your child/teen to work through difficult feelings that are getting in the way of them being able to move through the developmental tasks, that allow them to grow up confident and strong. While talk therapy is a part of my practice, for most children, and even teens, play is their primary language. Your child/teen will have the safe space they need to work through their issues, in a way that feels comfortable and accessible to them, while building skills and confidence.

ADHD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
