I have experience helping clients with trauma processing and recovery, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, addiction recovery, and reunification of families.
I appreciate the hard work and time that each person puts into counseling and I am committed to helping clients find change and improvement. I use research-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy and trauma focused therapy to help individuals, couples and families improve relationships or recover former trust and commitment. I focus on facilitating stronger relationships with those in a client's support system. I am committed to each individual and using each session to identify and address concerns and questions for individuals, couples, and families.

Life can be amazing, but it can also be extremely difficult at times. We so often get stuck waiting and hoping for things to just "get better," and feel paralyzed and hopeless to do anything about our current situation. Challenges like depression, anxiety, trauma, and relationship conflict only serve to exacerbate that heavy, stuck feeling. At Pathways Therapy, my goal is to help you focus on your "here and now," empowering you to have more control and influence over creating the pathway that will lead you the future you want.

Sometimes, despite our best efforts and the support of loved ones, we become stuck. Stuck in patterns of negative thinking, stuck in behaviors incongruent with our values and goals, and stuck in challenging emotions which do not seem to pass with time. Whether facing trauma, addiction, difficult relationships, or overwhelming life changes, there is hope. We can develop new skills, unburden ourselves of our struggles, and build a life of our choosing.

I know the hopelessness of what you are going through, because I have been there. I lived with the chains of pornography and sex addiction for many years, before realizing I held the keys to my freedom, they were just locked inside me. Since my transformation, I have committed my practice to helping other men heal from the early attachment wounds of shame, that drive them to seek for love, belonging, and acceptance outside of intimacy and connection with others. My work focuses on getting to the root of the trauma and reprocessing it, utilizing Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR).

I have 11 years of total experience working with high risk adolescents who have struggled with addiction, anxiety based disorders, depression, PTSD and parent child relationship conflict. However, I also see couples, adults and have found enjoyment in helping parents learn better ways to work with their children who struggle considerably emotional distress. I believe that therapy is intended to locate the cause of distress rather than coping only. Proper treatment begins with proper diagnosis. People desire to find a way to get what they want in a healthy and appropriate way.

I believe that within each individual lies the answers they are searching for and that therapy provides the “sounding board” to find those answers. In my 20 yrs as a therapist providing mental health and addiction counseling, I have found success in helping my clients discover their true potential and find inner peace amidst uncertainty and conflict; and the key ingredient to my success is recognizing each individuals potential for healing, developing a “connection”, and using an empathic, client-centered approach.

Recovery from substance use and mental health disorders is unique to each person. There is no "one path to recovery". I firmly believe in meeting people where they are in their journey and helping them find the path that will work best for their unique needs. I am passionate about integrating "traditional" therapeutic practices with "Complementary and Alternative Medicine", such as meditation and yoga. The research behind using these practices is clear that they increase people's mental health and overall wellbeing.

I specialize in working with individuals who have experienced trauma, co-occurring disorders, and those who struggle with substance use.
I believe everyone has what it takes to find joy, peace, and love in their lives through vulnerability and connection. After working through my own trials, I discovered that I wanted to help others and decided to become a therapist. I found a love for listening to others and trying to understand how their stories have shaped their view of themselves and the world. I enjoy connecting with people by encouraging them to explore new ways to find happiness within themselves and their relationships.

Although each human experience and journey is unique, they are closely intertwined with others. Most of the struggles that a person seeks therapeutic services for are not isolated to them, one situation, nor issue. I truly seek a holistic and eclectic approach allowing for individualized care that can have a greater impact in providing hope and change. Through my training and various experiences, I have found many innovative ways in treating families, adults, adolescents, young adults, and couples that are struggling with: depression, anxiety, addiction, family discord, grief, mental and behavioral issues, and failure to launch.

Addiction Therapists

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
