I believe relationships define each of us and form the foundation for our life. I work from a systemic perspective with couples, individuals, and families to create relationships that define not only who we are, but also who we desire to become. I help clients with their relationships, intimacy, connection, communication, and sexual compatibility. I work with a lot of women who have suffered from Narcissistic abuse in relationships and family of origin. I also help those who are confused in their current relationships. I enjoy helping those who have autoimmune disease and cancer redefine their sexuality, relationships and desire.

Are you in the grips of chronic dieting, disordered eating, or suffering from body image distress? Have you been struggling PCOS or infertility? Perhaps you have been navigating grief or relationship difficulties in isolation. Maybe you are discovering who you are and asking questions about sexuality and gender. You are not alone! You envision one day feeling acceptance, even liberation, from the experiences that currently feel burdensome. You're ready to come home to yourself. What would it be like to no longer navigate these concerns alone, but with someone affirming and nurturing?

What’s standing in the way of what matters to you? Sometimes it’s trauma. Or a relationship you can’t seem to heal from. Maybe drugs are helping you cope but blocking your authentic self. Career stress sucks too. And our partners and friends can be sources of great joy or great discomfort. Will these challenges drown you? Absolutely not. You have the courage within you to find meaning in this suffering.

Wanting to be someone else is a waste of the person you are. So who do you ultimately want to be? What is going on in your life to cause stress or strife? What can we change or take out to improve things? Are you communicating effectively with your adolescent or loved ones? Life can throw many different obstacles that cause stress, anxiety, depression, and a breakdown of relationships. One of the hardest relationships for parents or caregivers can be the one with their teenager. As a marriage and family therapist I take a look at your entire life and not just the person itself to facilitate change.

The human experience can be overwhelming. We all have experienced trauma - whether relational, mental, physical, sexual, spiritual, or emotional. We can find healing & our way forward in the safe space of a therapeutic relationship as we learn more about ourselves through genuine, non-judgmental curiosity. Learning how to be safely in our body (embodied) with all our different parts, experiences, memories, feelings, & thoughts can be life changing. By regulating the nervous system, we can teach your body that you are safe on a cellular level.

We specialize in open, nonmonogamous relationships such as polyamory and swinging, alternative lifestyles such as kink / BDSM, LGBT+, and secular or alternative faiths such as paganism. Trying to live more freely and authentically can be hard. Some struggle feeling something is wrong with them. Some people have just been polybombed, the love of their life seeming to say they’re not enough. Others, having taken the leap can’t seem to stop fighting. Feeling isolated, scared, tired, and like they're going to lose everything.

Life gets overwhelming sometimes. Feeling like no one really gets us or what we’ve been through is a lonely place to be. And sometimes just that one new challenge on top of everything else makes us wonder if we might need to reach out for help. Take the plunge. In our work together, I will help ground and guide us in the therapy process, but your needs and goals will remain the priority. I work with adults and offer a safe platform to look deeper at what challenges you face and what will help you overcome them. Our connection in therapy helps you explore and strengthen the connection you have with yourself and those around you.

You’re looking for someone who can understand what you’re going through, what you’ve been through. You want someone you can trust to tell the things you tell no one else. You need someone to guide through what you’re going through and help you get to the other side; a side you probably can’t even see because you’re currently in the middle of it. Don’t lose hope. Never lose hope. Nothing is permanent and change is inevitable.

The focus for my practice is reproductive counseling. I help clients facing struggles with infertility, pregnancy and infant loss, and perinatal mood disorders. I work to form a strong relationship with clients to help them understand the many transitions and some loss that accompanies new parenthood or expanding families. I also see clients who have moved on from having children and are now facing the changes that come with peri-menopausal syndrome and menopause. My approach to this work is through a relational approach with some cognitive behavioral and mindfulness strategies.

Do you struggle to break free of rigid roles, deep-rooted patterns, or old ways of thinking that no longer work? I specialize in helping individuals overcome the roadblocks of life that prevent joy and lasting change. Most of my clients have experienced trauma in life; most feel stuck. Many seek help during life transitions or relational conflict while others are searching for more meaning and purpose in life. Much of psychotherapy is about gaining agency and autonomy to live the life you want to live. Those who resonate with my approach tend to seek authentic self-expression, greater intimacy with others, and a more joyous life.

I am a therapist trained to listen, nurture and work with you. This might be repairing relationships, healing from trauma, recovering from addiction, managing anxiety or depression.  I see clients both face to face in my office as well as online within the state of Texas through HIPAA-compliant confidential video. Clients come to therapy when life is not working. Joining with a therapist allows patterns to be investigated and altered, insight to be gained and distress to be tolerated. With guidance, clients set goals for therapy and I work to meet those goals. They are a benchmark for progress.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Austin?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
