As a counselor, I come alongside people who are in a difficult place in their life. Earlier in my life I needed someone to walk with me during a hard time, and I found the counseling process to be life changing and life giving. It changed how I see and relate to life, people, God, and myself. If you are struggling with your relationships or marriage, if you battle with depression or anxiety, are lacking hope, grieving deeply, or if you just feel stuck, I would like the opportunity to walk alongside you and help you process what change and living life differently would look like for you.

As a therapist, I have worked in several different modalities in serving adolescent teens, and adult individuals with addiction, trauma, and other challenges.
Do you feel alone as though no one understands your pain or your struggles? Your situation is unique, yet you are not alone. Sometimes, life appears to be unmanageable, and things may have spiraled for the worse. These precipitating events you have encountered have now led you to seek solutions and counseling for guidance in your time of need. Maybe you have done some self-reflection and you do not like what you see. You aspire to improve your shortcomings but do not know where to start or who to reach out to. That is where I step in. I am dedicated to assisting you with becoming the best version of yourself amid adversity.

My clinical experience includes, but is not limited to working with anxiety, depression, trauma, mood disorders, substance use, personality disorders, neurodevelopmental disorders, relationship issues, parenting/family issues, and self-esteem.
Seeking help is the first step towards feeling better. Regardless of why you are seeking help, the most important thing right now is that you are making the choice to do so. Focusing on what we can control (instead of what is beyond our control) is often a key element to working through difficult life circumstances. Together, we can work on learning and developing skills that can help you improve the quality of your life. My main focus during therapy will be to help you lead a more fulfilling life by working with you collaboratively to achieve your goals.

I have training in mindfulness practices, have a background in substance abuse and recovery work, and am EMDR certified.
Feeling alone in your struggles can be so defeating. My clients often find when given a safe, trusting space--free from judgement--they can find relief and solutions to these struggles. Many of them need help in making sense of how their past experiences influence who they are today, while we work towards, and discover, the ways they want to change. The folks I see are frequently healing--from trauma, from grief, from relationships--and find that the emotions that accompany these experiences can be overwhelming and confusing. Therapy can help with this.

I specialize in bx modification, depression, anxiety, trauma, substance use, relationship problems & sport psychology.
I strongly believe in the practice of: embracing personal growth, enhancing performance, and enriching one's passion.I am curious about finding ways to enhance one's "heart" and inner drive that leads to greater sense of empowerment. While pushing oneself to their physical limits one can begin to understand the importance of mental strength. My goal is to understand your experience, your needs, and provide evidence based treatment. The therapeutic journey is personal and emotional. I appreciate being a part of your journey.

My focus includes anxiety, depression, adoption, childhood disorders, trauma, substance abuse, and adjustment to life transitions.
I myself struggled with Anxiety and Depression as a young person. I often like to joke that I took my first psychology class as a DIY project. As I discovered what worked for me, I realized that I wanted to share that knowledge with other people. I view therapy as a place to feel safe, express feelings, explore relationships, describe experiences, and (if necessary) revisit old wounds to heal from them. In my practice I am passionate about utilizing Positive Psychology, strength-based approaches and CBT to achieve better mental health.

Waitlist for new clients
Aging, death, break ups, brain injury, major health diagnosis, addiction, family conflict, and dozens of life's other challenges are accompanied by grief. Grief and loss is part of a universal human experience that, despite it's commonality, is just as difficult every time for every one of us. As much as we'd like for these feelings to just disappear they can cause us to feel overwhelmed and hopeless until we find a way to integrate them, not "get over" them. I offer telehealth visits to adults and older adults in Texas and am accepting new clients.

Over my 49 years, my life has been touched by a variety of mental health issues with friends & family: addiction, Borderline Personality Disorder, depression, psychosis, homelessness, suicide, & Bipolar Disorder.
I will challenge you. I am curious. I will be straightforward. I truly believe everyone is doing the best they can, with what they have, at the time. That's where we'll start. I have found that the most helpful therapeutic experiences involve a mix of straightforwardness, empathy and empowerment, and I strive to do this with my clients. Areas of interest and experience for me include, but are not limited to, trauma stemming from: family of origin, relationships with people who have personality disorder, and grief (particularly after suicide loss); addiction, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and spiritual growth.

Addiction Therapists

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
