I welcome families and individuals from all walks of life who may be experiencing challenges with depression, anxiety, anger management, addiction, social skills, coping skills, and relationships (couples and interpersonal relationships).
My name is Iesha Anderson. I was born and raised in Houston, TX and graduated from Prairie View A&M University. I also attended Texas Southern University with a Bachelors in Psychology. Academics were a very important part of my life. I realized at an early age that education was vital to my future success in life and the life of others. I have always had a passion for counseling and helping since the first day I sat in my psychology course during my journey in undergraduate school. My experience in Real Estate, taxes, customer service, and mental health has equipped me with the ability to relate and understand where others are coming from. I have always had a passion for special populations and was blessed to find a career that combined my love for both, families and individuals.

Therapy isn't just for issues so large that you feel it is a final chance. Here, we can work together to come to terms with grief, depression, anxiety, or addiction and work through it. Going alone through such a journey is hard, but you don't have to do it alone. We can work towards having peace again or even for the first time.

I have worked as a therapist in several partial hospitalization programs around the Houston area, serving adults with substance abuse, dual diagnosis, and persistent mental health issues.
Working through difficult emotions is a key factor in you living your best life, but sometimes fear and anxiety keeps us from accessing and processing these feelings. I can teach you not only to challenge uncomfortable emotions but to work through those deeper feelings that may get in the way of your success. I have a transtheoretical orientation and have found components of cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and strengths recognition instrumental in treating my clients’ needs.

Seeking help for life’s struggles is not an easy task especially when it requires our emotional exposure. I believe it takes a very courageous person to seek help and be vulnerable. If this is you, I want to congratulate you! I consider it an honor and a big privilege to walk beside my clients who are facing hardships in life. I believe therapy can be extremely helpful when the client is approached with welcoming, comforting and the nonjudgmental heart of a therapist.

When we receive the message growing up that we're "not good enough" - that we're "not worthy enough" - we spend the rest of our lives trying to prove our worth to others. Some of us self-soothe through developing addictions, and some of us cope by feeling the need to have to clean up other people's messes - even when it puts our own mental health at risk. We do this by feeling responsible for other people's problems, by avoiding conflict, and by overcompensating and taking on way more than we should. If you'd like to become a patient, please head over to thirdcoastcw.com/contactus and fill out the new patient form.

Life can be more challenging than you expect, and sometimes you need help in moving forward. In those times, you need someone who understands you and can coach you in finding a healthy way to manage what life throws at you. A good therapist is like a fellow traveler who is able to help you make sense of life and relationships. In many life situations, a supportive counselor who understands how challenging life is can be a helpful part of your journey.

Addiction Therapists

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
