I have a lot of experience working with big, confusing emotions as well as addiction and recovery.
“Start where you are” is a guiding principle in my work and in my life. My goal is to meet my clients in their present moment experience, incorporating compassion and gentleness into our sessions together. If most of your thoughts tend to be fearful, judgmental or worrisome, I can truly empathize. In our work together, we will move at a pace that feels respectful of where you are in your life and develop a path forward with the hope that you can decrease levels of anxiety, improve self-esteem and listen to your intuitive voice.

Whether you're struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, addiction, or trauma, I provide a safe and supportive space to explore your experiences and work toward greater authenticity and fulfillment.
I specialize in working with individuals and couples from a holistic perspective, incorporating evidence-based modalities to support healing and growth. My practice is informed by the belief that healing occurs within the context of relationships. I approach therapy from a "person in the environment perspective". I help clients explore the dynamics within their families of origin and how these patterns continue to influence their current relationships and sense of self. We will also explore the importance of secure attachments in fostering emotional regulation and resilience.

If you are in need of help for you or a loved one with substance abuse concerns, reach out to schedule a visit!.
If you or someone you love are having problems related to alcohol or drug use, there is hope and a way out. It is most useful to meet with someone who truly understands addiction and can provide a true assessment. I will work with you, your family and any other healthcare providers to develop a plan of action based on your needs. Often times the road to recovery starts with meeting someone who listens to understand, meets you with genuine care and concern and can provide useful recommendations. Chemical dependency is a primary illness not a secondary mental health issue; trust a counselor who entered this specialty field.

Therapy can also help you to change longstanding patterns of behavior, thoughts, and emotions that lead to problems like addiction, poor self esteem, and unhealthy choices in relationships.
I understand that finding a therapist who you can trust and feel comfortable with is important. I am easy to talk to and offer a warm, relaxed, and non judgmental environment where you can speak honestly and confidentially about any issues you may be having in your life. My role as a therapist is to help you both explore opportunities for growth and change and to look for barriers that might be getting in the way.

I have experience with people suffering from trauma, depression, anxiety, addiction, and spiritual crisis.
We can’t get around suffering sometimes in this life, but we can learn to live with dignity and grace, and we can know joy. Whether you are having questions of a spiritual nature, feeling stuck in your life, or needing to be free of deep and abiding pain, I stand ready to walk with you on the path of healing. I can say this with confidence because I have made this journey myself. My own experience with therapy helped me to understand that human beings are not machines that break and need to be fixed. They are beings that course correct; they mold and are molded by their environment.

I have a specialization in addiction and value helping those struggling to find answers to break the cycle that is so harmful to them and those around them.
I believe that people can change at any point in life, but sometimes lack the self-understanding, skills and belief in self to do so. In therapy, a person can take time away from the rush and demands of life in order to figure these things out, make plans for change and most importantly, implement change. I want to help clients develop their own skills (self-efficacy) to continue to grow outside a therapeutic setting. I have 30 years of experience in the mental health field working with a very wide range of psychological concerns.

Leveraging clinical experience across a variety of populations – including children, teens, and adults – as well as a variety of settings - schools and psychiatric hospitals - and needs - including complex trauma, depression and addiction - I am confident we can develop a guided path exclusive to your needs.
The journey toward healing and overall mental health can be difficult, and often, the most challenging part is knowing where to begin. You may feel stuck or even overwhelmed. My role is to eliminate that complexity, so you can concentrate on the path to recovery, and ultimately free yourself to focus on what matters to you most – your family, your career, your relationships. With specializations in research-based modalities - including EMDR, I empower my clients with the knowledge and understanding to face their challenges, stressors, or symptoms head-on. And in that process, free yourself from the mental barriers and fog weighing you down.

Addiction Therapists

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
