I also work with a number of LGBTQIA clients, compulsive eaters and substance abusers.
It takes courage to come to therapy and most people do so when life seems unbearable. Others come because they want to grow in some way and believe therapy can make a difference in their lives. My ideal client is someone who is self-motivated and ready to "work" in therapy. I work with men, women and older adolescents. I work best with individuals who are ready for positive changes in their lives and who want to improve the quality of their life and their relationships.

If you or your family are struggling with issues like substance abuse, addiction, eating disorders, or relationship conflicts (infidelity, communication problems, etc.), therapy can be a great way to deal with those struggles. Most people struggle without support for longer than is helpful. People have the innate skills to cope and bounce back from their struggles. My goal as a therapist is to provide a non-judgmental space for you to identify and grow the tools to work on those struggles.

I have spent the majority of my career working in the public school setting helping teens with substance abuse issues and problematic behaviors that has resulted in alternative school or incarceration.
I've been working in the field of addiction and codependency with adolescents and adults since I began practicing 10 years ago. Since then I found through the use of 12 step work, along with continuous therapy, individuals, couples, and families saw the change they were seeking. I believe you are the one who holds the solutions to your desired outcomes and I am simply the one who is honored to help navigate and process those with you.

I specialize in substance and behavioral addictions and recovery as well as relational and family dysfunction, trauma, and interpersonal issues.
Every new day is a new chance to change. Life comes with many stages and changes like getting married or divorced, having children, going to college, starting a new job or losing someone close. Whether you are prepared or not these things often create so many emotions, thoughts, and decisions it gets overwhelming. Sometimes you just need someone to listen and help guide you through it. As a systemically trained therapist, I believe it’s the experiences we have had throughout our life with family, friends, partners, colleagues, etc. that shape who we are and influence how we handle what’s going on in our world.

You deserve a life that’s worth living even during the strife and struggle so that begs the question, how might I be of help to you? You deserve to have support and someone to walk through life challenges with and I would love to be that person for you! Therapy should be, and is, a space where together we can curate the change that you want to see in your own life. Even if you are unsure of what that solution looks like, I believe we can find it together. I know that calling a therapist can be intimidating but I hope you will take just a moment to call and see how I can help you.

The hardest part is making that first call. I have over 20 years of experience as a counselor. I love what I do. Call any time for an appointment. 432-248-6449. Or after hours. 325-998-9630. Therapy is cheaper than... Many times I hear people say they cant afford therapy. But if you figure the costs it saves it is money well spent. Divorce? Can cost your thousands and half of everything you own. Grief? Can take years off you your time to enjoy your life. Teen Stress? Can lead to hospitalization or even jail time. Thanks

I believe in a therapeutic process that revolves around life's changes and the journeys it takes us on. Choosing to change your focus is a powerful way of transforming any situation. Focusing on the positive doesn't mean that we are denying reality or avoiding what isn't working. It simply allows us to work from a grounded place in order to make the most informed decision from a less emotional place of clarity. Within our sessions, the goal is to cultivate a trusting and collaborative therapeutic relationship where an individual can bring their full self into session without any fear.

Addiction Therapists

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
