I started my career as a substance abuse counselor after the pitfalls of my substance abuse and recovery, which has been a real asset counseling those with addiction and dual diagnosis problems.
I have had a 30-year career of counseling those in need with mental health and substance abuse issues. I have a unique approach to developing a trusting relationship that is meant to let the client steer me to what is important or missing in their life. It is part of the human condition for us to feel lost at times which facilitates the need for an experienced clinician to assist them in finding ways to cope with issues they are experiencing.

Do things you used to enjoy in life now seem out of reach? Perhaps you’ve struggled with relationships, work, or found that your loved ones don’t fully understand what you’re going through. Challenges with mental health, substance issues, and related problems can become overwhelming, stealing all the joy and meaning out of life. I’ve struggled at times myself, and I know how difficult it can be to reach out and trust others, especially mental health professionals. That’s why I make it a point to be non-judgmental and open with those I work with. After all, we all need help from time to time.

There is someone you can call for help. Someone that is experienced in helping you begin to feel in control of your feelings again. Here at Realign Counseling we care, and we will help you to understand your feeling

I have worked closely with patients who suffer from depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and PTSD.
I believe in the benefits of counseling to help improve personal functioning, healthy relationships, self-awareness, improve mood, and the realization of persona. Through the therapeutic process a person may come to appreciate the uniqueness of their own personal qualities and discover new ways to develop a better understanding of the self and cope with life through profound change. I see each individual through their personal progress in hope of providing them with the necessary tools to work through their therapeutic goals. As an EMDR trained therapist, the individual can benefit by overcoming past traumas (PTSD).

I also have an extensive background treating addiction, recovery and codependency.
We all go through life struggles, which we are not able to handle on our own. Therapy is a very helpful tool to get the help and guidance that you, your family or typical support network may not be able to provide. My job as a psychotherapist is to work collaboratively with clients to help you heal and grow. My approach is gentle and direct, and while I have confidence in my knowledge about therapy, I treat every client as an individual and learn from every person who works with me. My clients would say they trust my intuition, pay close attention, tell them the truth and empower them with ongoing effective strategies for healing.

Addiction Therapists

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
