I employ a holistic approach, integrating CBT, ACT, EMDR, and art therapy to address a range of challenges including depression, anxiety, ADHD, anger issues, relationship dynamics, parenting, gender exploration, substance use, and trauma.
Life can be a wild ride and finding your way through it can feel like an overwhelming task. However, you don't have to navigate this path alone. I believe that many of our challenges stem from normal reactions to unusual circumstances. My goal is to assist you in delving deeper into your understanding of yourself, your life, and your relationships, ultimately guiding you towards acceptance rather than struggle. Together, we will pinpoint the values you wish to nurture, compassionately confront any obstacles, and utilize creative techniques to help you craft a life that is both genuine and purposeful.

I treat: Adults, pre-adolescents and adolescents, Trauma, substance abuse, process addictions, family dynamics, sexuality, sexual abuse, LGBTQ specific issues, relationship and attachment issues, self-harm, eating disorders, self-esteem issues, depression, anxiety, anger, ADHD, adoption issues, domestic violence, and bipolar disorder.
Wholeness leads to healing. I guide my clients to accept all parts of themselves and find balance in their lives. I entered the field of counseling with a passion for treating trauma (big T and little t trauma). Along the way I gathered some exceptional tools for doing so, including EMDR and a somatic approach to psychotherapy. Not so far removed from trauma, I have also developed a specialty in treating addiction of all kinds. I have seen the power of emotional healing to transform people's lives in ways they always wanted but didn't know how. I am here to help whenever the client is ready to do that brave and powerful work.

Many of us are stuck in a pattern of resisting and pushing away, living in reaction mode instead of proactive mode, which leaves us unfulfilled and exhausted. Self expression promotes the release of emotional tension so that we can be less reactive and more responsive in our lives. When we allow difficult feelings to emerge through images, we are able to gain awareness on the root of those problems. Awareness opens the doorway for change to occur. Allow me to guide you through creative exploration to help you move through every day challenges with more ease, patience, self-awareness and in the full expression of who you truly are.

Are you at a crossroads in your life? Do you suspect that past painful or traumatic experiences are interfering with your life and relationships? Are you ready to roll up your sleeves, dig deep, let go and uncover something shining? I enjoy working with women, men, couples and other therapists who are ready to discover their resilience and do the work they need to do to uncover the gold in themselves and in their relationships. And, yes, there is always gold. Really, always.

As an expert in the field for marriage and family issues as well as addiction, I have specialized training in treating an array of mental health and substance abuse issues.
Therapy is a growth experience that can influence the way you view the world and yourself. As humans, we all experience times of discomfort and life transitions. Therapy is not only for those suffering from addiction or mental illness. It is also a way to gain skills, enhance your performance, and learn more about yourself. Barriers to becoming who you want to be can be explored in therapy and work to re-building life, relationships, and even your career.

Sometimes what we need most is to be seen, heard, and appreciated just as we are. Through my own personal counseling and my professional training, I’ve witnessed the power of healing through connection with another and this is the foundation of my work as a therapist. When we are able to be vulnerable with another person, to be truly seen and heard it can be liberating. I bring this approach to my work with a variety of concerns including trauma, anxiety, depression, identity exploration, attachment wounds, emerging adulthood, and substance use.

I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist in North Carolina.
I know how hard it is to seek help when you’re struggling. I get it because I have been there too. You deserve to live fully. You deserve better than scheduling problems, long drives, big bills, and weak outcomes. Maybe you’re afraid it will take years of counseling just to start feeling better. I believe therapy should be a lot more than learning how to cope or survive something. It should help you achieve your goals, thrive in relationships, and live more fully.

My clinical focus is helping clients and families impacted by substance use disorders, eating disorders, trauma and attachment challenges, and mental health symptom management.
Life can present challenges, some we live with every day, and others seem to come out of nowhere. Maybe life doesn't follow along a path we've spent years creating and working toward. The business of living can begin to feel like a grind, and simple tasks may create exhaustion, fear, and uncertainty. Unresolved and painful childhood memories seem to revisit out of nowhere, and even though you've worked and wished, or prayed about the pain, the pain lingers. We often resign ourselves to perceiving life as a chore instead of a joyful experience, which can lead to a lack of fulfillment and even chronic illness.

As a survivor myself from addiction, family dysfunction, and mental health issues, I know what it feels like to not feel complete.
We live in very stressful times and I believe we all need help at some point in our life. Things can happen in life that are out of our control and we need help getting our life back on track and feeling normal again. Sometimes we need to know its ok to not be ok. It's ok to seek professional help, whether its because of addiction, family dysfunction, mood disorders, or just someone to talk to. The goal at the end of the day is to feel like you have a sense of purpose, meaning, and direction in life. There is no such thing as a perfect life but you can give yourself permission to stop surviving and start living again.

I have experience working with a wide range of challenges including depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, marital and family challenges, psychosis, interpersonal challenges, substance use disorders, and personality disorders.
At some point during the complex journey of life we all experience stuck points, emotional suffering, and sometimes an emotional crisis. It my deeply held belief, however, that we all have the innate ability to recover, heal and thrive. Providing an environment that facilitates healing and resilience is tremendously life-affirming work. I trust that each one of us has tremendous wisdom and strength. In partnership, we identify growth areas, goals, and strategies. Although it is essential that therapy is nurturing and nourishing, it is also hard work. I admire anyone who has the courage to push themselves out of their comfort zones.

My Clinical internship was spent in a substance abuse/mental health facility in South Florida, where I worked with military and veteran clients.
As social beings, people need the contact and acceptance of other people. It is not uncommon for people to experience things that disrupt or unravel their lives, and they feel they have no one to turn to who understands or accepts them. Whether this experience is anxiety, depression, stress, life changes, or trauma, my passion is to help individuals find healthy ways of coping and processing the events in their lives. As well as helping people connect with others in more meaningful ways.

21 years experience in Mental Health and Substance Use, and 6 years clinically experience.
I look forward to assisting you with developing the skills to live a more abundant life while implementing the tools that you already have! Life can be hard at times and with the right coping skills, life can be more manageable to those experiencing depression, grief, anxiety, substance use, and other mental health issues. Working with those who have experienced relationship issues, such as infidelity, abuse (domestic, verbal and/ or physical) can learn how to become a survivor instead of a victim. I know that building a healthy therapeutic relationship is the first step in the therapy process in a non-judgmental environment.

Addiction Therapists

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
