Yes I have availability. No, I'm not in network with insurance. Your out of network benefits may cover. I'm very easy to talk to. Do you have trouble sleeping? Are you overwhelmed? Do you have a sense of doom? Have friends and/or family commented on the amount of alcohol or drugs you can take? If so, you may benefit from seeing me. Since 1996, I have worked extensively with people struggling with Substance Use Disorders, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Depression, Anxiety, and Grief. I also take a secular approach to those who have experienced religious trauma. If you have struggled with any of these issues, I can definitely help.

I specialize in individual therapy, couples counseling (including pre-marital), family counseling, substance issues, counseling with older teens and parenting teens.
We are not meant to live life alone, but rather deeply involved in relationships. Some of these relationships are highly successful, while others have come with great loss, significant struggle or just the every day difficulty of learning to live and enjoy life with another person. I believe in the value of working through personal problems in the context of building stronger relationships. I will help you work through this on a personal level or with whomever you are needing to have a restored relationship with.

Our ability to experience wellness is deeply tied to our thoughts, beliefs, and choices. When life overloads and overwhelms us, emotional and behavioral problems often emerge. We feel stuck, discouraged, angry, or scared. But we can also discover and develop new strengths and resources to equip us to effectively cope with the challenges of life. As a psychologist with a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, it is my privilege to help others on their journey to wellness. I work with adults age 18 and over and have expertise addressing a broad range of problems, including anxiety, depression, anger, poor self-image, and addiction.

Anxiety, depression, loneliness and grief from life stressors can increase tension and conflict in your relationships. You may wonder, "Does marriage counseling or therapy in general work?" No single set of answers to these questions works for everyone, but together we will find new ideas and ways to ease your pain and make things better. I don't take sides. What ever the issues are, the process of healing and repair starts by getting some help. I am Medicare certified.

Being a person of long term recovery myself, I am uniquely qualified to help individuals and families struggling with addiction issues seeking long-term solutions. Since much of addiction is rooted in trauma, we explore the hurts that caused dysfunction in coping skills along with the effects of addiction on spouses, the family unit and friends.

I have worked with those wanting to manage symptoms of addiction, anxiety, depression, trauma, and personality disorders.
You will not go where you have not yet been without learning to do what you have not yet done. Many seek wellness, peace, joy, and such believing they must discover it for themselves, by themselves. Yet we see example after example that the most successful have guides, coaches, mentors, or counselors.

I am passionate about helping people who struggle with anxiety, addiction, developmental trauma, depression, and relational issues. At the core of my approach is an attitude of warmth, acceptance, and faith in my client's innate capacity for healing and transformation. Often people come to therapy with a sense of disempowerment. The impulse to reach out in hope of finding a caring, safe, or 'true other' shows your innate wisdom and strength. We are all in desperate need of help and connection. The implicit hope is that you can do more than just survive.

Department of Transportation Substance Abuse Professional (SAP): Licensed professional who evaluates employees who have violated a DOT drug and alcohol program regulation and makes recommendations concerning education, treatment, follow-up testing, and aftercare.
In my experience, a person who seeks therapy wants solutions that work. The fact that you are considering therapy is proof that you have more strength, and solutions, than you may be aware of today. Therapy is not about eliminating the inevitable problems in life but, rather, learning how to cope effectively and grow when they occur. Therapy is essentially a college course where you're the only subject. An effective therapeutic alliance can help people build the life that they want and deserve. My style is direct and active. I rely on honesty to guide our work together.

Addiction Therapists

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
