We are Christian centered and use a variety of research-based therapeutic methods of counseling to find what works best for our clients. Some of my specialty areas are Attachment- Based Issues, Anxiety and Depressive/ Mood Disorders, Addictions/Substance Abuse, Post Traumatic Disorders, Trauma, Obsessive Compulsive Disorders, Couples Therapy, Divorce, Women's Health Issues, Chronic Pain, Yoga, Somatic based Therapies, and Spirituality.
I went into the field of psychology because I love helping people transform to the best version of themselves. We all need a safe place to understand ourselves and how we relate to others/self. I often say "We need to be Mindful of our Total-Well Being and that our minds and our bodies are an inter-connected systems. Where the mind goes, so does the man or woman in their actions and body states. We go to the physician for our physical health, so how much healthier would we be if we went to our psychologist for our mental health?" At heart, I am a holistic practitioner and love seeing my clients Thrive.

I am a person-centered therapist trained in trauma-focused CBT, sexual addiction, and EMDR.
I have a passion for working with people seeking to find peace, healing, and growth in their lives. I facilitate a calm and supportive space for people so they can find healing for wounds both past and present. I have found that most problems people are dealing with results from unhealed trauma and grievances. I work with people to help them understand themselves, their hurts, their strengths, and their resources so they can heal and grow. Therapy is something I am passionate about because I've seen it work for people time and time again.

Each of us has a long list of personal strengths within our “SELF”, but too often they go unnoticed due to the overwhelm of life in general. Life is full of experiences that hold a lasting effect on us and deter us from moving forward. I work with you to identify, and utilize these strengths by processing through the barriers of past trauma, stress and anxiety, and the heaviness of a lack of self-worth. I work with any individual no matter their identity, but being someone who has personal life experiences with addiction, who identifies as LGBTQ and is an adoptive parent, I have developed a special interest in these individuals.

I am an EMDR Certified Therapist with specialized EMDR trainings in addiction, attachment, adoption and non-verbal trauma.
I believe people are more than their diagnosis. Yes, a diagnosis is a tool but it is not the big picture. I come from a place of curiosity and wonder, wanting to know my clients on a deeper level so that I can help them navigate this world. For example, PTSD is a big diagnosis that is thrown around; yet, it doesn't paint the full picture. It doesn't reflect someone's experiences, triggers, how this is impacting their relationships, family history, the strengths they possess etc. Adolescents are my passion however, I also enjoy and work closely with families and adults.

I strive to ensure you feel seen and cared for throughout our work together. Individual Therapy, especially for challenges that accompany addiction and recovery, or LGBTQIA+ related issues, is a process of understanding the internal and external energies, sometimes beyond our awareness, that guide us in both helpful and harmful ways. We all tell stories about ourselves rooted in profound moments in our lives and impactful relationships. Through therapy we can uncover new stories that better define who we are, what we want, and allow us to heal.

Depression, anxiety and addiction are often compatriots. They feed off each other and create a sense of hopelessness. Your struggle may be with substances (drugs/food), compulsive acts or obsessive thinking. However, they are often slightly different-shaped pieces to the same puzzle. Additionally, if you experienced trauma in your lifetime, you are even more susceptible to these disorders. Gratefully, there is hope and recovery for them! It is often not easy or quick, but it is doable. "God grant me the courage not to give up what I think is right even though I think it is hopeless." -- Chester Nimitz, WWII Fleet Admiral.

All too often, substance abuse and addiction has played a large role in the impairment and breakdown of the family, and its individual members.
I am a licensed clinical pastoral counselor, and, certified alcohol and drug counselor who has a passion for the family. Because the marriage relationship is one of the most important and satisfying relationships we will have, my goal is to help couples to: identify their strengths, and to build new ones; acquire communication and conflict resolution skills; help them to identify stumbling blocks, and then, help them to turn their stumbling blocks into stepping stones. My experience includes forty plus years of marriage and over twenty years of helping couples discover who they are as individuals, and who they are as a couple.

I am one of the most open-minded, non-judgmental people you will ever work with. Many times, clients have begun sessions afraid and timid about sharing details of their life with me. Once they get to know me, they understand that they are truly in a judgment-free zone. I am curious about you, your life, and what brought you to therapy. I have worked with a wide range of clients from adults in custody with substance use disorders to vulnerable populations with serious mental illness. Whatever the problem is, we can tackle it together.

I specialize in trauma, anxiety, depression, and substance use.
I know, emotions and feelings are not easy or fun to talk about, and they are definitely not always easy to feel. When you are feeling anxious, sad, lost, or maybe you can't even decide how you feel, and you give so much of yourself to others, that you have nothing left for yourself. My approach is compassionate, non-judgmental, and tailored to your needs. Together, we will identify the hard feelings, process the hard experiences, and learn skills and strategies to grow, heal, and feel better. (Sometimes, we may even develop strategies to deal with other people in life who won't go to therapy.)

I specialize in individual therapy, couples counseling (including pre-marital), family counseling, substance issues, counseling with older teens and parenting teens.
We are not meant to live life alone, but rather deeply involved in relationships. Some of these relationships are highly successful, while others have come with great loss, significant struggle or just the every day difficulty of learning to live and enjoy life with another person. I believe in the value of working through personal problems in the context of building stronger relationships. I will help you work through this on a personal level or with whomever you are needing to have a restored relationship with.

Addiction Therapists

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
