Addiction is an isolating disease that keeps us in a vicious cycle, and alienates us from the ones we love.
Change the story. Change the narrative. Building self esteem comes from doing esteem-able acts. My life experience enables me to offer effective, individualized, client-centered care. I treat a number of mental health disorders and addictions, and provide a safe space to individuals, families, and couples.

I have 6 years of experience working with diverse populations with a multitude of different challenges; some of which include intergenerational trauma, substance abuse, domestic violence, relationship conflict, neurodiversity, LGBTQIA, and cultural identity.
Life provides happiness as well as its share of challenges. I believe individuals and couples are capable of navigating life but sometimes need a little extra help and compassion. Therapy can be that place where a person can discuss, learn and work through any past or present challenges that may be getting in the way of living a happy and hopeful life.

I’ve worked with adults and children experiencing depression, anxiety, PTSD, relationship and parenting issues, grief and loss, domestic abuse, substance and alcohol addiction, from any culture or ethnicity.
My approach to counseling takes into account that each client is unique and views their problems and solutions from their unique perspective. Also, each client possesses unique talents and gifts that should be recognized and highlighted to strengthen their coping skills. I incorporate PCT, CBT, DBT, and Solution Focused Therapy in my practice. I find these therapies beneficial with brief therapy and to help move clients through the forest of life’s issues. I appreciate clients that identify their need for help and are willing to make life changes, and I represent the values of restoring hope, inspiring growth, and empowerment.

You can indeed change your feelings and behaviors, even if that change has seemed unachievable in the past. Perhaps you've already tried to address your concerns on your own. Maybe progress was more difficult than you thought or it proved to be short-lived. If you're ready for change, my goal is to help you move forward toward the life you want to live. I specialize in optimizing peer, romantic, and family relationships; reducing or eliminating substance use and addictive behaviors; and breaking unhelpful patterns around sex, dating, and technology. I welcome and respect all relationship styles and addiction goals.

I tend to work usually within a humanistic client-centered approach, where I accept the client for who they are and what they're bringing to session, and we work together to solve/address concerns. Depending on client's concerns, I will utilize different techniques (eclecticism therapy) such as CBT to art therapy to psychodynamic because honestly each person unique without a "one size fits all". I specialize in general mental health, men's issues, adolescent development, depressive symptoms/issues, BIPOC concerns, substance use, LGBTQIA concerns.

Accepting new clients with the hope of turning this unusual time in history into a positive step in yours. In addition to my psychology credentials I also have a Ph.D. in sexology and a second masters in Psychopharmacology. While I don't believe that this is what sets me apart I do believe it is a strong foundation for my diverse client population. I work with addiction, alcohol monitoring, all sex related and mood issues, either chronic or secondary to life changes. I can see clients from anywhere in California or New Mexico via telehealth or anyone near my 3 offices once quarantine is lifted. (WLA/Fullerton/Newhall).

I have had various training in Seeking Safety which focuses on trauma and substance use, trauma focused CBT, Multidimensional family therapy which focus on working with adolescent issues and their parents, as well as triple p positive parenting.
Making the decision to come to therapy can be overwhelming and scary, however it can also be one the best decisions you make for yourself. As a therapist, I approach my patients with the understanding that this step can be uncomfortable. I provide a warm, empathetic, and open environment for you to feel comfortable and begin your healing work. I have a variety of experience that ranges from working with individuals (both adolescents and adults), families, couples, and groups.

Addiction Therapists

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
