I have experience working with relationship issues, anxiety disorders, depression, PTSD, transitional disorders, fertility challenges, substance use, and co-occurring disorders.
Currently accepting NEW clients! Receiving teletherapy without leaving the comfort of your home is convenient for multiple obvious reasons; being in your own environment also offers several benefits that allow a natural process, greatly enhancing the therapeutic relationship. I enjoy working with adolescents, families, and adult individuals; ranging from a variety of metal health issues, to the daily highs and lows of life. My counseling style is to empathically meet my clients where they are throughout the therapeutic process, work alongside them while they navigate life, and offer insight for moving forward successfully.

I work together with my clients toward more self-compassion, awareness, and understanding. These bring about lasting positive change. I treat a wide range of issues, including depression, anxiety, addictions, interpersonal issues (i.e. couples counseling), psycho-spiritual/religious conflicts and abuse, sexuality, and pragmatic life-coaching, to name a few. I have extensive experience working with the LGBT community, some "out," others not; some religious, others not. I use Cognitive-Behavioral therapy (CBT) when indicated, coupled with mindfulness techniques. I also explore with my clients deeper-seated issues, including exploring our "shadows" and the roots of addiction and shame. I serve adolescents and adults.

I am doing in person and telehealth appointments. Do you struggle with not knowing who you are or what you want? Have you found that the coping skills that used to work just seem to fall short? Do you want a safe and nonjudgmental space to be able to talk with someone? I have been helping people with anxiety, addictions, and eating disorders since 2015, and can provide you with virtual counseling if you are anywhere in the state of Oregon! My approach is cognitive-behavioral, meaning that I am listening for negative thoughts that we can challenge and reframe more positively (cognitive), as well as things that you can do (behavioral) to feel less anxious and more hopeful, and to take good care of yourself mentally, emotionally, and physically.

Establishing a sense of wholeness and direction in our lives is often revealed once obstacles are known and cleared. This process of self discovery is far more potent and transformational when working with a therapist who can help navigate these unfamiliar places. My practice is largely informed by the personal experience of profound grief. Journeying through these difficult waters allows me to uniquely empathize and assist my clients through life struggles and losses.

You are searching these pages for help, for clarity, for healing. I've been helping adults and children understand themselves and their relationships for over25 years. You are not just an individual with a problem; you are a person in context to your past, your future and your present. My approach in therapy involves seeing us in the context of relationships with ourselves and others. As we come to understand who we are in those relationships we have opportunities for healing, for reconciliation, for growth.

Addiction Therapists

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
