I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology. To me, therapy is much more of a relationship than it is a science, and a therapist is not a medical provider, nor a healer, but first and foremost a person who engages in relationship through conversations with other people, in an attempt to make their lives better.
Although people often enter therapy in some sort of crisis, it is usually longer-term, underlying issues that concern them. My goal is to work to make the most of each session. My clients don't expect miracles, but they usually are in significant distress when we first meet, and want relief.
