Treatment for psychological disorders is better than ever. I specialize in offering new, evidence-based treatment options for OCD and related/co-occuring conditions that are more gentle and affirming than traditional approaches. How you experience OCD can be influenced by ADHD, Autism, racism, LGBTQ+ identity, trauma history, substance use and other contextual and identity factors. I'm here to listen with humility and acceptance (no thoughts are too shameful or taboo), make a thoughtful diagnosis, and gently guide you through science-backed treatment. Best of all, we can do it all from the comfort of home via videoconferencing.

I incorporate self-compassion and introspection into every session to allow for understanding and acceptance.
I work with women who are considering or approaching major life transitions or milestones. Women who are smart and ambitious and tend towards perfectionism which leaves them questioning themselves and experiencing stress and worry. Women who are entering a new decade, deciding to switch careers, contemplating marriage and/or parenthood, all the while navigating daily stressors and everyday lives. I work with women who are looking to be kinder to themselves and figure out what they really want.

My modalities integrate somatic, trauma-informed, evidence-based practices of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Motivational Interviewing (MI).
I am deeply passionate about helping you work toward autonomy over your life, relationships, health, and goals. This looks different for everyone (as it should), but, for many, a starting point is forming a connection with your body; embodiment is absolutely possible for every body size and experience. We cannot exist without our bodies! I understand how co-occurring issues with food, body image, media, shame, and perfectionism can create feelings of disconnection, dissociation, and lack of control. I also work heavily within the music industry to help creatives build identity while setting goals and boundaries along the way!

I see therapy as the process of realizing that we have more choices than we thought we did. I am guided by the belief that every human being is worthy and capable of change, and that connection is the epicenter of human healing. As such, I strive to create a strong therapeutic relationship based on trust, support and acceptance. It takes bravery to seek help, and I feel honored to walk alongside my clients. I recognize the validity of all gender identities and expressions, sexual orientations, races and religions and aim to create relationships/spaces with my clients in which they feel free and safe to be themselves.

My approach is based in attachment theory and utilizes EMDR, mindful self-compassion, and cognitive-based interventions including ACT and DBT.
Hi, I’m Abby. I help people find ways of moving through pain more effectively and wholeheartedly. Experience working with psychiatric crises and severe & persistent mental illness taught me that presence and connection are possible amid deep emotional pain and the human capacity for meaningful change is remarkable. “You know that the antidote to exhaustion is not necessarily rest? … The antidote to exhaustion is wholeheartedness.” - David Whyte

I'm trained in evidence-based treatments for OCD and anxiety, including Exposure and Response Prevention, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and other interventions.
I've worked at multiple levels of care, and I've seen OCD & anxiety at their gnarliest. OCD is not just about germs and organization. It can include debilitating mental compulsions, taboo themes, complex presentations, and so much more. Finding therapists who "get it" can be challenging. That's where I come in.

I use an integrative approach combining a humanistic/person-centered approach combined with elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Clinical Hypnosis, and Mindfulness.
If you’re struggling with depression anxiety, depression, grief, chronic pain, chronic illness/disability taking the first step in therapy is intimidating but I will work hard to make this first step as comfortable as possible. I have a passion for working with individuals with Chronic Illness/Chronic Pain/Disability, anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and life transitions. I believe that true healing happens when the entire person is cared for (mind and body) which informs my integrative approach to therapy.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
