My approach to counseling incorporates practical tools for coping skills from EMDR, Internal Family Systems, and Acceptance Commitment Therapy.
I have a deep passion for holistic health and seek to provide a safe space for my clients with unconditional support and encouragement. I enjoy working with adolescents (16 and up), college students, and young adults. I believe within each of these seasons having a safe space to process and work through some of life’s trials is important to living a wholehearted, self-aware life. This could include depression, anxiety, trauma, abuse, postpartum concerns, relationship difficulties, hard transitions, and feelings of shame/diminished self worth.

Together, we can work towards achieving self-acceptance, decreasing addictive behaviors, and building a lifestyle you want.
Are your negative thoughts weighing you down? Are you feeling like you can't escape them? Are their judgements about what you are eating or what you look like coming up for you? You might even use food or drugs to cope. Or maybe you have made a lifestyle change and are struggling with the negative thoughts that come when you are less than perfect with your intentions. This can be a vicious cycle that takes it's toil on you. It might not feel like it but you can lessen the pain, quiet the negative thoughts, and find yourself again. Recovery is achievable no matter how long you have been battling. Your story matters.

You aren’t sure why, but you’ve always felt like a burden. You don’t want to be alone, but you worry that if people really got to know you, they wouldn’t like you. Maybe this came on the heels of a traumatic experience or maybe its always nagged you without an explanation as to why. You aren’t sure if you can trust anyone to help you and wonder if anything will ever change. You want to live your life, to feel joy, to have confidence, and build healthy relationships. You want your life to have direction and meaning again. You long to get out of the rut and find a way to love yourself and others better. You want to heal.

I offer guidance and support in navigating life’s challenges while developing resilience and setting boundaries to protect yourself in a difficult world. My deep understanding of diverse backgrounds and generational trauma ensures a therapeutic environment where I will listen to your unique experiences, and acknowledge that your experiences may not be the same as mine or others.

What if you could finally break free from the anxiety and depression that seem to rule your life? Tired of feeling stressed out and on the edge of burnout? Do you find yourself getting angry for no reason? Are you always doubting yourself and your relationships? What about if perfectionism was really holding you back instead of pushing you forward? Are you struggling with disordered eating or wondering if you have an eating disorder?

Counseling does not solve problems, but instead provides a safe place to explore options and to process information. Counseling is for people with mental illness and for anyone who feels alone, misunderstood, hopelessness, or confused. Everyone struggles at one time or another, counseling is one way to ask for help.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
