People often think psychotherapy is only for crises. However research shows that therapy is one of the best investments you can make for life satisfaction and growth. In addition to therapy are other modalities that support healing and growth. Some of these holistic wellness tools include exercise, mindfulness, tai chi and yoga. I have a rich background in the application of mindfulness to promote healing and growth, and have experience integrating tools such as Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, DBT, CBT, Hypnosis and EMDR. I also find authenticity and humor essential for healing and use both liberally.

Through empathy, authenticity, and sometimes humor, I aim to meet my clients where they are and to act as a co-collaborator, exploring ways to enhance feelings of safety, empowerment, passion, and wellbeing.
Counseling offers a unique opportunity to look inside ourselves and to look around us. Through counseling we can further consider what it would mean to have greater personal understanding, to heal from past or current wounds, and/or to transform into the person we feel we have yet to become. The counseling relationship offers a space of non-judgment where we get to explore any part of what it means to be a human living in this complex, painful, and beautiful world.

Working with values driven ACT modalities to explore our values, self, and relationships we can address anxiety, depression, substance abuse, ASD, trauma, suicidal ideation, or behavioral concerns.
I believe in the power of connection. To self, to others, to the world around us. The stories we tell ourselves and the experiences we have do a great job of interfering with those connections. I work to support people by defining the values, relationships, and expectations that drive us. I enjoy working with young adults, adolescents and their families to explore the beliefs, fears, and anxieties that derail us from making those connections that give our lives purpose. I also love getting outside while we do it. Virtual sessions in the back yard or a walk and talk at the park? Frisbee gulf? Putt Putt? Paddleboard?

I will utilize a person-centered approach, recognizing that you are the expert in your life while incorporating evidence-based practices that include DBT, ACT, & Brainspotting,.
Sometimes we feel stuck. We’ve tried on our own to heal, grow, and learn but we still find ourselves in the same patterns that have led to a continuous cycle of confusion, shame, and hopelessness. You are not alone. If you have found yourself questioning your worth, your relationships, or your identity, I am here to help. Most of us know, logically, that hardship, distress, and unwanted emotions are a part of life. But sometimes we were not given the correct tools to manage these difficult experiences. Together, I believe we can connect back to your authentic self so that you can lead the life you want.

I blend active problem-solving and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to help you work on building self-awareness, enhancing emotional intelligence, and discovering values based in your authentic self.
Are you feeling unworthy of the life you are living or maybe incompetent in the role that you have? Maybe it feels like every thought that crosses your mind is a spiraling rabbit hole of worst-case scenarios, and it’s creating a barrier to reaching your fullest potential. Has it felt like you’ve been on an emotional roller coaster of sadness, anxiety, or confusion and you feel like the ride is never going to end? Perhaps an unsettling sense of wanting to isolate or build walls within your close relationships. You always make sure everyone else is taken care of first; however, you know it’s time for something different. Time for you.

I've collected a variety of tools and approaches over the years that have proven effective at creating meaningful, lasting change using a blend of EMDR, IFS, SE and ACT.
Cue the anti depressant commercial with the cartoon figure, the tiny rain cloud, and the narration 'feeling sad, lost, lonely, trouble sleeping, anxious, etc etc?' ..But for real, life can be a real ass kicker sometimes. Or maybe it's been so long, you can't remember the last time you weren't feeling overwhelmed or empty. Either way, whatever your struggles, you don't have to do it alone. And I'm glad you're looking for someone to help you.

I know it may feel hard to imagine, but awareness, clarity, acceptance, and alignment with your true self can happen.
You want something to change. You feel overwhelmed. Anxiety and stress keep growing daily and you wonder if you will ever be able to understand what is going on inside of you. Perhaps the shame and/or guilt of not doing or being enough just won't go away. You may feel like you never have time for yourself anymore. There may be feelings of sadness around a loss of a person, place, relationship or dream. It's possible you keep thinking that some things in your past you just can't let go of. All of this may be creating difficulties in your relationships and you don't know what else to do anymore. You just want something to change.

I utilize a foundation within Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to help folks get clear on what matters most to them, and take steps NOW, not when things settle down, or the chaos reduces, or the overwhelm decreases.
I believe we all have behaviors, vices and patterns that get in the way of living in a way that is rich in meaning and purpose. I care deeply about helping people explore their patterns of getting their needs met, from a place of non-judgement and compassion. I integrate relational neuroscience with an understanding of how substances and painful experiences intersect leading to feeling stuck, alone and exacerbate suffering.

My theoretical approaches are evidenced-based and include: EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction.
I like to create a welcoming environment to promote healing and allow clients to process the issues that brought them to therapy. Life can be overwhelming or frustrating as we navigate the changes and challenges that come along. Therapy is an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of our internal experiences, our relationships with other people and how we see ourselves in the world. Letting go of past events that still affect us can allow us the freedom to be more present to explore our values and live a rich, rewarding life. The client/therapist Relationship will be the foundation for the work that we do together.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
