I also integrate a number of different modalities into our sessions, through mindfulness, trauma modalities and interventions, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, as well as a host of others.
I love working with children and adolesecents, the more problematic and difficult the kids, the better. I enjoy interacting with them in ways that help us get to the core problems, while implementing coping skills into their daily life to decrease the daily struggles they have at home, at school, with their peers, and out in the community. Empowering them to find their values and integrate them into their daily choices. I also enjoy working with women. Empowering, strengthening and uplifting them to live their full potential, while processing major life events and changes that might be hindering their ability to be successful.

Life can be stressful. Navigating family relationships, friendships, schooling, employment, parents, and transitioning into adulthood can be hard to manage. Learning to communicate effectively, cope well, and set boundaries are hard things to learn alone. Adolescence is hard. Being a young person with big feelings and even bigger ideas can be challenging. Everyone deserves to work with someone who will listen, educate, give grace, and have fun!

Someone once told me that everyone is walking around with an 'under construction' sign above their head, meaning that behind the scenes everyone is working on something. My goal is to help you alter your perception of you, and to assist you in finding your way to living a life you find fulfilling. Occasionally we are found at a crossroads and are in need of some type of support, or change. I have experience treating a wide variety of clients including LGBTQ youth and adults, marriage and couples, athletes, and first responders.

“It turns out life isn’t a puzzle that can be solved one time and it’s done. You wake up every day, and you solve it again.” – Chidi Anagonye, The Good Place. Therapy is the most successful when the client and therapist are both working together to create positive change. As your partner in therapy, I provide honest and straightforward communication, an abundance of empathy, and compassionate education. I strive to foster an environment where you feel heard, validated, trusted, and empowered. No one should have to struggle alone, so let's work together to solve life's puzzles.

You feel overwhelmed, misunderstood, you have a hard time living in the present, always looking back at what was missing, or looking forward to how things could be. You want to enjoy life, to be happy, and it is exhausting. Or maybe you don’t even know how you feel but you know it doesn’t feel good. You might know where these feelings started, a tough relationship, trauma, a difficult childhood. Or maybe the feelings seem to come from nowhere. You are surviving, but, it doesn't have to be so hard.

Life, laughter, and love are important to living life wholeheartedly, but psychological pain can get in the way. Abuse in the context of a close relationship or a family can create the most pervasive and persistent psych-ache, and may be passed from generation to generation. Whether the source of pain is past trauma, worry about the future, or even current jobs or relationships, I am here to help! I often see clients whose trauma began in domestic abuse in the forms of emotional, psychological, physical, sexual, or financial abuses.

Over the last 20 years I have enjoyed meeting and working with people in their homes not only as a therapist but a parent educator, and advocate. It has been my experience that by meeting in the comfort of their own home people feel more encouraged to change when they can talk authentically with someone who actively listens to their concerns and issues utilizing reflective strategies. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Both Missouri. I am certified in trauma, anxiety, grief, and Child Parent Psychotherapy.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
