I draw from various research-based treatment modalities including, Mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Cognitive Behavior Therapy-- utilizing all through a psychodynamic lens that links the past to the present in order to create the future you want for yourself and your loved ones.
"To exist is to change, to change is to mature, to mature is to go on creating oneself endlessly". The therapeutic relationship is a partnership between two people who endeavor to co-create change. I have helped clients examine a wide range of issues (relational conflict, workplace difficulties, eating disorders, body image distress, addictions, trauma, spirituality, gender identity, aging, grief and loss, and sexual orientation). We will work together to alleviate your most pressing problems as well as develop a fuller understanding of the underlying issues that keep you stuck in emotional patterns that limit your capacity to enjoy the quality of life you desire.

I believe that healing is a highly unique journey that takes courage, curiosity, and acceptance, but frankly, it looks just a little bit different for everyone. Over the years, I have developed a strong interest in working with individuals navigating life transitions whether that is college, graduate school, becoming a parent, significant relationship changes, grief and loss, or career related shifts. Oftentimes we can feel overwhelmed, disengaged, anxious, and uncertain about what is yet to come amidst all this change. You are ready for something different, you are ready to live a more fulfilling and connected life.

I utilize ACT, Polyvagal Theory, mindfulness, and other skills-based interventions to support learning, symptom management, shame resilience, and behavioral change.
Do you question if your wants and needs are reasonable? Have you been told you're "too sensitive"? Are you finding yourself in relationships where you give more than you get? Does it seem impossible to get out of your own head? As a therapist, I am committed to empowering women to trust themselves, understand the science behind their "symptoms," and ultimately improve their relationships (whether in one or not). I'll help you develop skills to support connection while reducing self-doubt and worry.

Sometimes in life we can feel like we have no control over what is happening, the paths our relationships are taking, or what the future might have in store for us. I provide therapy to individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, grief/loss, life transitions, relationship changes/separation, substance use issues, stress management, academic challenges, sports/performance concerns, chronic illness, sexuality/gender identity issues, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia spectrum, and life balance.

Relationships require continued trust, communication, and deep awareness of each other’s worlds. I work with couples, including polyamorous, non-monogamous, kinky, etc., to build connection, trust, and intimacy in their relationships. I also help partners learn to manage conflict more effectively. I help partners find ways to communicate about difficult and sensitive issues. This is important when partners struggle to connect around each other's unique sexual wants and needs. These conversations need an atmosphere of trust, acceptance, and non-judgment, as partners learn to validate and respond to each other's sexual selves.

My therapy is informed by CBT, DBT, Mindfulness, Existential Therapy, and ACT, and is evolving as I read, listen, and collaborate with other therapists.
Crisis is a normal part of human life. We all have them. We can allow them to demoralize us and make us more scared and hopeless, but that’s not the only option. We can also use these moments of pain to learn and grow, and become stronger and more resilient. If we are patient, they can also transform our hearts and make us more compassionate.

I transitioned to the counseling profession at age 50 and I believe my diverse background before becoming a counselor is a benefit for my clients. I draw upon my lived experiences as an athlete, entrepreneur, business owner, wife, and mother, as well as my education and training in counseling. As a person-centered, strength-based therapist, I strive to build a collaborative relationship with clients, help them discover and build on their strengths, and work together to determine a path forward. I believe everyone can heal and change, and that journey most often begins with gentle acceptance and self-compassion.

Some days you may not want to feel so weighted; your head to not race; your intimate partner to not be that passing ship; or so moved by compulsion. You may just need some safe space to figure it all out. This can be your sorting place. My goal is to help you better identify and understand your symptoms and improve overall coping. You are an individual, not a cookie cutter, so your treatment approach will be unique to your needs, and each person's journey is individual. Through goal setting, we can help you to develop decisions congruent with the life you want. I use CBT, ACT, mindfulness, & Gottman Method (completed Level 1 & 2).

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
