We all struggle at times to see our inner strengths and capabilities due to the life experiences which have shaped us. I work in the belief that we each have everything we need to achieve a fulfilled and successful life already present within us; sometimes we just need a little help accessing it. Using a multi-modality approach I encourage my clients to work in the small steps, not the giant leaps, that bring us to self awareness, acceptance, and lasting change.

I utilize an eclectic therapy practice, however I predominantly have experience in Compassion Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, as well as training in Interpersonal and Social Rhythm Therapy (IPSRT), a modality specialized for folks with Bipolar Disorder.
Creating and holding space for folks to feel safe in, share, be authentic, be vulnerable, and heal is something I have felt called to do throughout my life. I am an adamant believer that individuals are the experts on their own experience, and that includes providing space to discuss the impacts of various forms of oppression you face. I view therapy as a partnership on a journey toward healing, for which an affirming and non-pathologizing space is essential.

My approach draws on a range of psychological, cognitive, and behavioral treatments, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, pain neuroscience education, and mindfulness-based interventions.
You may feel like you've tried everything and still haven’t found relief. That takes a toll. My specialty as a health psychologist focuses on chronic pain management, helping people manage the severity of their pain along with the frustration, sadness, exhaustion, and grief that come along with chronic pain. When it comes to managing pain, having a therapist who specializes in pain matters. I find fulfillment in helping patients like you achieve better quality of life, achieve lasting health improvements, and reach personal goals that otherwise couldn't be met.

Do you find yourself constantly putting the needs of others before your own? Are you struggling to assert your boundaries and prioritize yourself? Do you feel like you always show up for everyone else, but no one asks how you are doing? Or how you’re really doing? You're not alone. I know embracing change can be nerve-wracking, and I am here to support you through every part of owning your authenticity. It can be challenging to find the balance between caring for others and caring for yourself. However, prioritizing yourself isn’t selfish. In fact, it’s an act of self-love and self-preservation.

In these areas I have used DBT, mindfulness, CBT, SFBT and ACT.
At times life’s struggles can lead to a need to adjust to things thrown your way unexpectedly. When feelings of anxiety, sadness or adjustments become overwhelming, we may benefit from an objective partner to help us think things through and sort out our choices. I specialize in working with Black, BIPOC, African American teens and adults experiencing depression, anxiety, stress, chronic health concerns, work related issues and life transitions. If you could benefit from a safe space, an empathetic ear, a non-judgmental voice or a reflective place of insight, my training and experience can be of assistance to you.

You strive for perfection in everything you do, but the pressure inside is building up. You act so strong like you have it all together, yet internally you overanalyze everything. It’s difficult for you to take breaks and struggle to ask for help. You fear failure and don’t want to let other people down. You prioritize taking care of everyone else and neglect your own needs. It is time for a change. It’s time to learn how to listen to your inner voice. You are ready to live a life free of self-criticism, workaholism, and perfectionism.

Through radical self-acceptance, I am here to help you discover your inner healer so we can courageously face the shadow of your struggles.
You’ve been living by everyone else’s needs instead of your own. You want to stop abandoning yourself, but everyone else is relying on you, and you can’t let them down. You attempt to prioritize your wellbeing, but every time you plan to do something for yourself, you feel a pervasive sense of guilt. Knowing you’re everyone’s go-to counselor and cheerleader provides temporary relief from the profound feelings of worthlessness that plague you. While you’re dedicated to the happiness of others, the true reason for your incredible care is that you’re terrified of being alone and disappointing others.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
