If you're experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, OCD, stress, self-confidence issues, or struggling to find self-acceptance, know that you don't have to navigate this alone. I help individuals ages 12-28 work through life's challenges using humor (dark humor, anyone?), curiosity, and empathy. Online therapy/telehealth sessions with me can provide the space you need to explore these difficulties and find a path forward in the comfort of your own home. I have immediate availability as of April 2024.

I want to help you "Be the best YOU!" Everyone is the expert on themselves, sometimes you need a bit of guidance. The struggle is real and can range from self-doubt to poor self-esteem to overcome trauma, and everything in between. For me the only client requirement is the desire to change, the willingness to do the work and the ability to say, "I know I have more to offer, but I need help!"

Trauma is common and over half of all people will have experienced at least one traumatic event in their lifetime. It does not have to continue to disrupt life. My mission is to help people find their power again and move past their trauma so they can live their best life in accordance with their values and goals and fully live and enjoy their lives. I use trauma informed care first and foremost along with a blend of other modalities in order to help clients find their own strength in managing their symptoms, learning self-compassion, and regaining their internal locus of control.

Many people show up to therapy believing that there's something wrong with them or that they are the problem. Let me assure you that you aren't "crazy." The symptoms you struggle with are just that, symptoms of a larger, more relational problem. Whether you're struggling with your mental health, connecting with your partner(s) or family members, or job related distress; we're here to help. The therapists at KCCD will always see you as a human rather than just a diagnosis. We understand that life (and our relationships) can feel overwhelming, and we're here to support you in overcoming any obstacle.

My approach to therapy is grounded in the belief that you know yourself best. In therapy, I am not the expert on your life; you are. I will serve as a guide as you work through the messy, raw, and unfiltered areas of your life. Together, we will discuss and implement strategies to make your burdens feel lighter. My wild hope for you is that you go forward with the skills and confidence to thrive. I am also trained in EMDR. This is a modality that provides people the opportunity to heal from challenging and traumatic experiences.

From that core, I use trauma-informed, evidence-based methods like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and self-compassion.
My approach to mental health counseling and high performance psychology does not focus simply on symptom reduction (i.e., removing difficulty), but rather aspires to honor what is good and right about you, and what makes each day worth living according to your beliefs, identities, values, and enriching relationships. My aim is to provide a space that invites exploration of challenging yet vital places of growth in the service of what is most important to you in your life. In particular, I have passions supporting people's resilience to shame, perfectionism, and anxiety.

I'm client centered and use a variety of traditional therapy modalities (ACT, DBT, CBT) as well as play therapy modalities such as sandtray.
You may be feeling like the lotus flower: stuck and surrounded by muddy murky waters. It is possible to navigate the murky muddy waters much like the lotus flower that rises up and blooms above the water toward the sun. I would be honored to walk with and collaborate with you, to help you get unstuck, find effective ways to cope, heal, and transform. My goal is to make the process less scary by creating a safe environment. I strive to provide a compassionate and holistic approach tailored to meet you where you are at.

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
