Clinically I pull from CBT, solution-focused therapy, ACT, and psychodynamic therapy depending on the needs of the client.
As a therapist I work with clients who are ready to feel empowered to work through life's challenges and grow into their most authentic self. I champion clients as they heal through past traumas, work on boundaries, and create fulfillment in their lives. Together we can address anxiety, depression, life transitions, boundaries, relationships, career transitions, and unhealthy coping skills that no longer serve you.

Adults with painful anxiety and depression can find relief through Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, survivors of trauma may benefit from trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy, and those struggling with ambivalence can make changes with the support of Motivational Interviewing.
My practice supports adults who are experiencing acute and/or chronic distress. For some, events like divorce, trauma, loss, and adjustment to a blended family spark symptoms. As a result, depression, anxiety, angry outbursts, mood swings, isolation, addiction, and vocational difficulties may emerge. Many others have been living with the pain of recurrent anxiety and depression for decades. I support people as they work through these difficulties. I believe in people's capacity to grow, change, and move towards self-determined goals.

I am a Spanish-speaking, LGBTQIA-affirming counselor creating a compassionate space in which you can process trauma, pursue fulfillment, and connect with all the parts of yourself. As an intersectional feminist, I approach therapy as a collaboration between equals, and I believe that you are the authority on yourself. In my practice, I take into account personal and structural issues such as identity, the mind-body connection, power, and privilege — all the things we can and cannot control. Together, we will explore opportunities for the myriad parts of yourself to find acceptance and balance.

I utilize Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.
I provide a warm, compassionate, and nonjudgmental atmosphere to help you feel comfortable opening up about what you have been struggling with. I specialize in working with adults who struggle with depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, addiction issues, dealing with a life transition, and relationship issues. Many of my clients begin counseling because they are not feeling like themselves and want to make a healthy change. Sometimes we don't know exactly what that change is until we begin to build awareness around our needs in therapy.

We utilize narrative approaches as well as Dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), Acceptance Commitment (ACT), mindfulness and positive psychology.
Our perspective is that everyone's life has a story, and therapy is a way to identify and change that story to fit with your goals and values. Seeking therapy can be difficult, and we enjoy supporting people in finding their narrative and re-writing it the way they desire to fit their needs. As strength-based and client-centered therapists, we believe that meeting people where they are enables them to feel at ease and supported in the process. Helping others identify their innate strengths and using them is a large part of my philosophy. We are an anti racist practice and pride ourselves on being able to serve BIPOC populations.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
