My approach combines insight, acceptance, and respect to help you address the root of your issues, not just the symptoms.
Life can be painful, and people become depressed or anxious because they are too hard on themselves, feel they must be perfect, have a need to please others, or have suffered a loss. Life stress can make these issues feel even worse. Whether your poor self-esteem causes you anxiety, depression, or relationship problems, or feelings of failure I'll work with you with compassion to facilitate your healing and personal growth. Respect and dignity are extremely important to me, and that is how I treat people.

I believe the purpose of therapy is to enhance your quality of life. Sometimes that means addressing a particular crisis or period of emotional distress. Other times, it may be more about developing a deeper understanding of yourself, your relationships, and past experiences. No matter the circumstances that bring you in, good therapy will provide you the space and tools to better understanding your personal values and goals. This understanding allows you to make choices and act in ways that are consistent with what is important to you, ensuring a life that feels meaningful and satisfying.

You're tired of fighting! You've tried to talk to your partner, but nothing ever seems to resolve your issues, and you find yourself arguing about the same things over and over again. No matter what you try, nothing seems to work. You're fed up and may even be contemplating a divorce or breakup. I am sure you have tried going to your friends and family for help, but even though they may have the best of intentions, you feel little relief.

I’m not your average therapist. I help people RAPIDLY reclaim their lives from suffering and develop a new, healthy way of living. I help my clients feel relief in just a few sessions. How you ask? Well, I could give you coping skills to help with your symptoms, and sometimes I will. But what I have found most beneficial is tracing the symptoms back to the root of your issues and repairing the mental injury. This can oftentimes be completed in one session. Therapy doesn’t have to be a long or distressing process. If you're ready to start feeling better and live a life in alignment with your potential, let's go!

My style is relational. I am very good at building rapport and actively listening to the client's worldview. I'm authentic in my counseling with clients because feeling safe in my practice depends on it. I challenge my clients and hold them accountable in a way that comes with time as we build our rapport. I always work with the client on what their goals are and like to provide psychoeducation on theories that may be beneficial for their lives.

Unresolved Trauma, Chronic Stress, and Anxiety leave you feeling out-of-control and out-of-touch with the confident, curious, and secure self you used to know. You may be experiencing toxic shame or excessive guilt. You may fear that you are broken beyond repair or just a problem to be solved. Maybe you just want to enjoy your life but you feel haunted by the past, fearful of the future, and disconnected from your body. It can be scary to start this journey because you’ve become comfortable with the way things are even though you want them to be different. I help clients rescue themselves from the chaos and come home to themselves.

I love helping people see new possibilities and opportunities in their life when previously they had faced difficulties, either in their external world or their internal world. I think it is incredibly meaningful to be able to support a client or a family in the process of trying new approaches to what had previously seemed to be an "impossible" situation. I also love learning about how to make our brains "work" better in our relationships, families, schools, workplaces, and other important social areas!

I am a strengths-based therapist whose style is non-judgmental, engaging, and interactive. I build a trusting alliance with my clients, which is the foundation from which we begin to peel the layers and delve into their concerns. I help my clients confront and change the patterns that create and perpetuate their distress and unease - including but not limited to building self-esteem and self worth. My clients leave therapy not only having the skills and tools to better manage their emotions, thoughts, behaviors, and relationships but walk away with a deep sense of worthiness, self-compassion, and self-confidence.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
