By practicing acceptance, you can focus on taking actionable steps that move you towards your goals that align with your values.
Are you feeling overwhelmed by daily obligations? Do you find yourself having difficulty focusing? Maybe you find yourself thinking you’re not good enough or feel like an imposter. I know exactly what you’re feeling: feeling things are out of your control, the tension in your body, the feeling you can’t possibly get everything done without disappointing others and you want relief now. Anxiety can be debilitating, and I don’t want you to have to suffer anymore. Reframing thinking patterns can significantly reduce anxiety, and I look forward to teaching you the strategies that will give you your life back.

My therapeutic style incorporates a strengths-based approach to build off what is already working for you or going well in your life. I foster an anti-racist, anti-oppressive, and intersectional approach in my practice by making sure we first establish our positionality and the power dynamic within the therapeutic alliance. I want our sessions to act as a teaching-learning environment—I have just as much to learn from you as you have from me. We will explore what you want to get out of our sessions and work through any psychoeducation on topics you would like to further understand before moving into the work together.

I utilize a multiculturally sensitive approach, borrowing from ACT, DBT, MBCT, mindfulness, narrative, and solution-focused therapies to develop a collaborative and eclectic style to treatment that is tailored to your needs.
“It’s always best to believe in one’s self, but a little help from others can be a great blessing!” I view each person as the main character in their book of life. Each book contains stories of joy, sadness, exploration, struggle, and most importantly, hope. My goal to assist in exploring these stories, whether you encounter depression, anxiety, life transitions, relationship issues, intersectional struggles, or self-esteem issues. I am especially sensitive to those impacted by LGBTQ issues, religious minorities, activists, uniformed public servants, and those experiencing depression.

To develop your strengths and techniques, I use a combination of treatment paths which include acceptance and commitment therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, rational-emotive behavioral therapy, and mindfulness techniques.
Change is possible for everyone, regardless of your past doings and experiences. Within YOU lies the strength that can help you live your best life. As a therapist, I’ve helped many people who felt hopeless or stuck work through their struggles and access that inner strength. You have what it takes! Whether its anxiety, trauma, depression, anger, or life transitions, I’m confident that we can work one-on-one or in a group setting (family and friends can attend depending on the need).

Focus: college students and professionals struggling with depression, anxiety, and/or relationship issues. I'm trained in evidence-based therapies, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, which concludes that through mindful meditation, we can defuse ourselves from our thoughts and emotions, allowing us to commit to value-congruent actions in a way that brings us life purpose. I am also passionate about working with couples, helping them navigate through their struggles at any point in their relationship or deal with sensitive issues. Lastly, I'm a sex-positive Sex Therapist who welcomes individuals to explore their sexual issues in a safe and non-judgmental setting.

Sometimes the hardest thing is asking for help. Choosing to enter therapy is a courageous act and one of the best gifts you can give yourself. Finding the right therapist for you, someone whom you can trust, who makes you feel safe, and believes in you might feel difficult and daunting at times but is also one of the strongest predictors of successful therapy. I feel honored and grateful to each and every one of my clients who entrusted me with their stories and embarked on their healing journey with me. My goal is to meet you where you are and help you gain the necessary insight and skills to live the life you want and deserve.

I specialize in EMDR for processing past challenges, integrating ACT or DBT for values and skills.
I'm drawn to those who've faced life's unfair blows, carrying the weight of trauma. It's not about fixing; they're not broken. Their needs center around shedding the burden of feeling defective due to past experiences. Together, we navigate their history, aiming not to erase but to transform. The goal is a fresh perspective, a chance to unshackle from the past, and embrace a new lease on life—a journey filled with compassion, understanding, and authentic growth.

I use a combination of ACT, EMDR, CBT, and Narrative Therapies that has been shown to be effective for a wide range of challenges including: PTSD, OCD, Depression, Anxiety, and Addictions.
Everyone has a story with ups and downs, twists and turns, hopes and disappointments. Being alive is about doing what you care about, in service of your values, while accepting and thriving through your story’s plot twists. I enjoy helping people make sense of their story and to set free their free will, so as to live in the freedom of your chosen values. In addition to my Masters in Social Work, I also have a Master of Arts in Theology. While I will honor every client’s personal/spiritual beliefs as valid and their own, clients that wish to include their Catholic/Christian values will find the support they are looking for.

The ABCs of positive mental health are Acceptance, Belonging, Connectedness, and Security.
One afternoon I told my wife that after another tour, I would be leaving the U.S. Coast Guard for a very different career. Serving my country and the men and women of the U.S. Coast Guard is one of the greatest honors and privileges of my life. After serving for nine years I knew that directly assisting and serving people is the life-giving work of my heart. I became a Social Worker and therapist because it is my greatest joy and pleasure to support you as you unify all your strengths and gifts to release your Faith, Hope, and Love into society.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
