Once in our therapy room we start to replace those feelings with acceptance and understanding.
Sex is an area of life that can both impact and be impacted by everything else in life. Yet we often feel so alone in our sexual lives with very few places and people to turn for help. It is for exactly that reason that I was driven to be a sex therapist and open Peak Couples & Sex Therapy, a group psychotherapy practice. Our sexual selves matter. Our sexual needs, wants, fears and struggles all matter. I want to create the space for others that my younger self deserved to have when she was growing up, trying to understand how sex and relationships impacted her confidence, identity, values and needs.

My foundation is in Relational Psychotherapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, including elements of Positive Psychology.
Sometimes we worry that coming to therapy means something is wrong. I believe it means something is right. Often, my clients find themselves facing more decisions and questions about who they are and what they want out of their lives and relationships than ever before. My clients experience a range of concerns including depression, anxiety, career challenges, loneliness, trauma, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, adjusting to life changes, difficult family dynamics, and generally feeling overwhelmed by life. This is an important time when many people ask themselves: How can I feel like what I do matters?

There are times when things are not going as well as we'd like in our family, social or work relationships, particularly post-Covid. You may feel alone, depressed, anxious, or have conflict or discomfort with those you care about. In my psychotherapy practice I help couples, individuals & families restore their sense of well being and connection. People learn how to be more present and intentional in accordance with their values. Partners learn to be safely available to each other through a dialogue process that teaches more effective listening, deeper understanding and empathy. In person and Telehealth meetings are offered.

I am experienced in Humanistic, Psychodynamic, and Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), and I draw upon each of these orientations in my work.
In my view, the overarching aims of therapy can be boiled down to two main goals: First, that you feel as comfortable and safe in the therapeutic setting as possible; and second, that you thrive as a person, whatever that may mean to you. As my client, I will spend time talking with you about what is important to you in your life, and I will also focus on the therapeutic relationship between us, because this can often be a window through which we can view other significant relationships in your life.

The aim of our work together will be to guide you in gaining understanding of yourself, your thoughts and feelings, which give way to self-compassion, self-love and self-acceptance.
Some life changes are causing you to feel flooded with emotions and over-thinking your every move; your mind is stuck in a cycle and your body is in a constant state of alert. Sometimes you seem to be anchored down by a past experience(s) that keeps tinting your daily life. You are filled with worrisome thoughts, self-doubt, and your relationships have started to suffer, at home and work, to the point you cannot enjoy what you used to anymore. Those past experiences seem impossible to leave behind as many things from now keep bringing you back to them and how you felt in that moment; you simply don’t feel like yourself.

My areas of expertise are Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT).
Creating an engaged therapeutic relationship is where we start. I became a therapist because I believe in the power of relationships. Moved by my own experiences, I wanted to guide others to push past perceived limitations, obstacles, and fear to live a full and meaningful life. We all have the ability to grow, heal, and move forward. I have over 20 years of experience providing individual and group therapy, focusing on parent coaching, family systems work, and navigating depression and anxiety. I have sat across and heard many stories of loss and courage with an open heart - let's work together to explore yours.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
