I incorporate a variety of treatment modalities including Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, CBT, Exposure and Response Prevention, DBT, and ACT.
Sometimes our thoughts inhibit our ability to enjoy life and live in the present. How we react to those thoughts is so important, yet for many of us, we rely on strategies that are ineffective at best and harmful at worst. Often, we get stuck in a cyclical pattern of thinking, and we can feel our anxiety growing. There is a way out of this.

With my foundation firmly rooted in the therapeutic relationship I utilize best practices in Neuroscience, Positive Psychology, and ACT to support you in bringing forth the best within you.
I believe within each of us is a powerful energy we can use to expand our lives. In moving beyond our limiting beliefs and the places where we get stuck, we open to our potential. Learning to manage our thoughts and emotions consciously, from a place of alignment with our values, allows us to identify and express the best version of us more consistently. It is just a matter of time before our external world begins reflecting these internal changes.

As an ACT therapist, I utilize 6 core processes to implement strategies for effective change through increased psychological flexibility.
I work with people who feel overwhelmed with stress, anxiety, depression, attention deficit, outbursts of anger, thoughts about the past (regret, remorse, traumatic experiences), thoughts about the future (fear, anxiety, catastrophizing 'what if' scenarios), insomnia, lack of purpose, past relationship experiences impacting present relationships, self-sabotage, and general sense of meaninglessness. The work I do is collaborative and the results are real. As a person in personal recovery for over 24 years and a Iraq war infantry-combat veteran, I have lived experience maintaining sobriety while making strategic adjustments.

I primarily work with adults and young adults suffering from depression, anxiety, and/or addiction, in addition to those struggling with relational/communication issues. I take a highly personal, strengths-based, positive approach tailored to each client's individual needs. In addition to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which directly targets negative thoughts, I use an acceptance-based approach by encouraging clients to accept, rather than negate, current thoughts patterns so that clients can move toward their values and start living meaningful and productive lives.

You may be finding yourself in a state of uncertainty, surrounded by societal expectations and prejudices. Your fears of judgment, discrimination, or rejection are present in your daily interactions and relationships. It can feel like a delicate balance between self-discovery and societal acceptance, where each step towards progress feels challenging.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
